Med School - Slacked in Freshman Year

I am currently a sophomore at my high school, and just recently discovered how much I like pretty much anything med; I love anatomy and bodily functions. I'm looking at anesthesiology, because of all different med positions it seems to be the most enticing to me.

Last year, freshman year, I had a 3.4 GPA; terrible, in my opinion. I want to attend Ohio State University (OSU), and I know that I won't get into there with a 3.4 GPA (though, reading on, I AM trying to bring them up.) This year, I'm really trying to bust ass; to say it in the simplest terms. I'm inputting all of my assignments into an app on my phone, just started studying (and found that it's not over-rated for the first time in my life!) and it's just simply going good; though, after all these years of unorganization, it's caught up to me and it's a little difficult getting into that 'groove'.

In the next 3 years, if I get into AP classes or even some honors, is it possible to get my GPA to at least a 4.0; or even higher? To catch up from that 3.4?

If I don't get into OSU my first year of college, oh well. I'll look at premed at least for a few years at other colleges.

But mainly, is it possible to get that GPA that high after a fail freshman year?

Sorry if that was confusing at all. My thoughts stream out randomly sometimes. xD

3.4 weighted or unweighted? Are you an Ohio resident?

I did the same thing freshman-sophomore year. I just couldn’t handle sports and academics at the same time.

You’re fine honestly. 2 years is enough time to bring it up to at least a 3.8 unweighted if you get straight A’s, and Ohio State is pretty happy with anything 3.4+. If you do well on the ACT or SAT, you should also have a good chance at getting in.

3.4 being unweighted, I do believe (if you mean the difference in Honors classes and such). I lost my report card, and so I calculated it myself with just regular values; no Honors +'s or anything.

And indeed, I’m in marching band so that screws with the beginning of my year. Though, I really didn’t have any excuse at the end of the year besides laziness. I’m through with that now, though.

Do colleges look at how you progressed through high school? I’ve heard that they are more lax on freshman years, but I’m not positive.

“Just woke up” bump.
