Medical Leave of Absence?

Dear friends,

I am turning to College Confidential because I am torn about a decision that I need to make. I am thinking about taking a leave of absence for next quarter due to some medical issues, but I almost feel that I could take classes next quarter despite my issues, specifically mental health ones. I don't know. I have had to take many incompletes during the past couple of years and have had to finish them either during school breaks or during the next term.

My issue with this is if I just went back next quarter I would have my degree, as I am on track to graduate then if I just go back next quarter. I don't want to go back in the first fall quarter once the rest of my class has graduated, but I could also finish from away if I wanted to either next quarter or in the fall's first quarter. I know that going into next year would be more expensive, as my parents made more money this past year, and am afraid I will be a financial burden to them if I go into next year. I also have not had a good time at my school and would like to get out ASAP.

Any thoughts on this would be utmost appreciated.

Thank you,
Wishmunk

Mental health is serious. If you think you should take a break, take one. You need to look out for yourself. If you’re ‘suffering’ (for lack of a better word) right now, then going back next quarter could lead to more stress or whatever that could make things a lot worse which could affect you long term. Speak with your counselor, let them know your situation and see what they say. I’m sure they’ll understand or give you some suggestions. It’s okay to graduate later than everyone else. Many people do. Things come up. Like I said, you need to look out for yourself. Good luck.
