<p>I recently missed a week of classes due to illness. I missed a couple quizes and an assignment. I emailed my profs in every course in which I planned to miss graded work and told them I'd have a doctor's note. But the thing is, I only have one doctor's note. Do profs usually insist that they keep the note? Is that how it works? Would it be reasonable to just show it to them and ask for it back?</p>

<p>I'm thinking maybe I could tell each prof that I need it for another class, and ask if they could just jot down the info from the medical clinic (in case they plan to check up on me, which is the only reason I can see why they would want to keep the note) and give me the note back? Does that seem fair? I don't know I've never done this before.</p>

<p>I’ve always just made copies and said that I have the original available if they want it but since multiple professors requested it I brought a copy. Nobody has ever asked for the original.</p>
