Medical Waiver

I got my LOA in the beginning of March and then I find out from dodmerb this week that I need a medical waiver for my knees. When do I find out if I get my waiver? I haven't had knee pain in about 1.5 years and I wrote that down; my doctor also wrote a medical clearance for all orthopedic issues. I called the orthopedic doctor that I saw 2 yrs ago and he's out for 2 weeks... I called USNA to ask when I would know about my waiver status, the possibilities of getting a waiver, and then if I should try to get myself un-disqualified (if that's a word :p). However, the medical lady is out because of something so I left a message on her answering machine.

Besides waiting, what do I do? What SHOULD I do? I don't want to be rejected because I can't get a medical waiver for a problem that no longer persists. I'm physically active for 2-5 hours a day, 6 days a week and I don't have any knee problems.

you should ask on the following subforum: http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20

there is a retired navy hospital corpsman who worked for DODMERB for many years up until a year or two ago, answering questions and giving advice on that subforum.

Thanks, I'll go create a username there

Another thing, this is what I did. If you go to your doctor (preferrably the one who specializes with your problem) and get a note stating that your knees are no longer an issue and haven't been for awhile, after that make a copy of it and send one to DoDMERB and send one to USNA. USNA will get it a expediate the waiver process (they will tell DoDMERB to look at it now, instead of DoDMERB waiting to get to it). This is what I was told to do by an admissions member. It worked I got news a lot faster than I was told it would normally take.

I spoke with my regional director today. He told me he is going to e-mail the USNA lady who deals with medical stuff and told me to call on Monday when she'll be back in. He told me they'll probably just want a medical clearance (which I had sent in, though) so I'm wondering if maybe because it's at the "crunch" time, dodmerb missed the part about my doctor clearing me for all orthopedic issues (I had sprained a few body parts :p)

I have the fax number from USNA to send my medical forms to them if I need to send anymore. I had originally faxed all my forms to usna and mailed them to dodmerb because my medical was being handled late in the game.

Thanks for all the help. :) I hope things work out.

I heard the same thing as zrmvrhs08 -- and they waived me within two weeks instead of sitting and waiting. The people at the Medical Office at USNA are really helpful too.

Good luck gonecokanutts!
