I've never been to NYC, but DC is better than LA. And that's from a Californian.

Of course, I'm slightly biased to the superiority of San Diego. :)

I'm sorry, but I have to continue defending DC! "SOME nice museums and monuments and stuff, I GUESS. it's alright." OK, so how about the fact that those "all right" museums have every document, and represent every ideal YOUR COUNTRY WAS FOUNDED ON!!! The SMithsonians??? They are by far the best museums in the US, sans the Guggenheim, the MoMA, and the Met. (Props to NYC for that), but the Natural History is considered the BEST in the world, and I heard that from a museum tour guide at the Natural History museum in LONDON! I'd say that culturally, DC is lacking as far as plays are concerned (once more props to NYC), but musically, the NAtional Symphiny Orchestra is by far the ebst orchestra in the US, and one of the best in the world, if you don't consider Europe. Her in DC, you can find every kind of food, and authentic too, here I think we are all tied. LA haas by far the best shopping, yes it does beat NYC, the clothing is so alternative and innovative. I'd say our major problem is that these three cities are very very different! I mean come on, how can we compare a West Coast vs. East Coast city, they are built at completely different times, with different ideals, and different kind of people (not to mention mentallity). Then it is impossible to comapre a bustling metropolis, to a nation's capital (at least here in the US), they are built once more for different purposes.
DC=LA=NYC!

P.S. DC, NYC, and LA, have almost the same prices, after taxes, Cal. taxes are high!

Hideous sprawl? I prefer this "hideous sprawl" compared to the claustrophobe's nightmare called New York. And our metropolitan transit authority is > than yours. (Both in size and efficiency. LA has more buses, and our subway system is slowly improving.) Traffic is a nightmare in both cities, but notoriously worse in NYC.

And DC, yeah, I gotta hand it to them. I prefer DC the most both over LA and NYC. I don't know about San Diego, it seems pretty depressing to me. (I've been over there, my uncle ran a Mandarin Restaurant for quite some time before moving up here to Los Angeles/Stevenson Ranch) ..

DC > LA > NYC.

=)..

Ah. San Diego. It's becoming the new cpaital of the newly formed Southern part of Southern California. =P
