Megabus?

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with students using the Megabus between Minneapolis and Madison? This might be a good option for D.

My friend used it for going to visit Madison. Said it was fine. Best option if she doesn’t have her own car I suppose.

Kids (and parents) use it all the time. The price is great and I think the pick up/ drop off spot is near the light rail station next to the MN Vikings stadium. FYI, the seats are not reserved and the price seems to fluctuate based on when you purchase your ticket. But I think the max price is around $40 and the average is $20…not bad

My neighbor took it to visit her daughter. She selected a seat mate who she thought looked fun to visit with. To her surprise, not a single student talked the entire trip. They all sat with headphones on listening to music and doing homework or using their laptops. My son and his girlfriend took it down to Chicago one weekend and said it was fine.

I have a Chicago relative who has used Megabus a few times to visit the Twin Cities. The Chicago route stops in Madison. It has always run on time. I’ve been passed by the Megabus on I-94 when heading to Chicago - it wastes no time. People of all walks of life recommend the Megabus (including some ritzy relatives we have who recommend it for getting to Midtown Manhattan from Philly). I think for some routes you can actually reserve decent seats with tables or more legroom (surcharge for these options). I’m hoping my kids who are heading to college soon choose something on the Megabus route because it really is a comfortable, reliable and economical option to get them home for visits.

Love using the Megabus for the redeye trip to/from Chicago! Free wifi, and if you can sleep on a bus, the time passes by quickly. No reservations/tables on this particular route, @Mamelot‌, but agree it’s definitely reliable and economical.

You are correct @khidhala! Some of the non-redeye routes offer reserved seats such at table seat for $3 or balcony for $5. I’m definitely passed my “redeye” days (which is why I looked into those departures  ) but it’s an excellent option for students wishing to travel overnight. If you can sleep onboard it’s a real time and money saver.
