Mens Rowing- Stanford

If Stanford is to consider recruiting you as a rower, what are the minimum requirments as an athlete and as a student. In essence, what should your high school GPA/SAT scores be in comparison with your 2K/ 6K score? I am currently a junior with a 4.35. My 6K split is 1:50.6 and my 2K is 1:41.3. I have been rowing for 8 months. What should I aim for?

Generally over 6 ft tall and a sub 630 2k (1:37.5 splits) will get Div 1 attention. Good luck.

When I was at Stanford, I walked on to the crew team without any previous rowing experience. Crew is one of the few sports at Stanford where this is common, which partially relates to only a small fraction of the team being recruited athletes. I got the impression that the recruits didn’t get a big break on GPA, SAT, and other academic stats. Instead they appeared to be academically qualified, like other applicants. Other posts on this site have suggested that Stanford crew requires just as high academic standards as HYP crew, if not higher, but they have more of a holistic view of the applicant, looking beyond stats.

I’d suggest contacting the coaches via the links on the Stanford website and/or filling out the prospective student athlete form.

Thank you both of you. Very insightful, much appreciated
