mental illness

a friend of mine got into an ivy ED, and now wants to start getting treatment for a mental illness that she has had for a long time, depression. however, she is afraid to do so because she worries that, if her college were to find out that she has clinical depression, she would be rescinded.

is this a valid concern?

No. No school would rescind an applicant due to depression, much less an Ivy. Do you know what sort of negative publicity that would cause? Colleges provide free health and counseling services to its students to help with these sorts of things.

Encourage her to start treatment ASAP. The sooner she begins treatment, the sooner she will begin to feel better.

Remind her that colleges have counseling centers on campus for a reason. She will not be the only student on campus with a diagnosed mental health issue.

yep, everyone’s got something these days it seems
