Merit Aid and FAFSA

Hi everyone,

I noticed that Rutgers had a FAFSA deadline of 2/15 - needless to say, I missed it (I may only fill out the FAFSA for purposes of non-subsidized loans). My question...

My DS was accepted to Rutgers (in state) but has yet to receive any merit aid consideration. He's top 15% or so with a 2010 SAT. I'm wondering if I needed to fill out the FAFSA in order to be eligible for merit consideration, or are his stats a little light (SATs seem to be well within the range)?

Thanks all,

SATs would have qualified but
merit aid also requires top 10%. That’s probably why he hasn’t gotten anything. And they go all by numbers - not much of a chance of getting an exception.

Merit is different than FAFSA. Check with Rutgers to see the last date they’ll send out merit awards.

Okay, thanks for the replies!

According to studentaid.rutgers.edu, the priority deadline for filling out FAFSA is 3/15.
