Merit Aid at William and Mary

Greetings all, I write to you again haha. I know you probably get tired of me, and you probably all could recite my application from memory (but I’ll repost it below for those who don’t have it memorized yet). As many of you know, I’ve listed about 5 or 6 recurring universities on my short list. These schools are all OOS, and my chances at merit aid are obviously tough but possible. Well, I was thinking about it today, and I realized I had completely forgotten W&M. I have visited a few of my top colleges, and truthfully, I fell in love with W&M more than any other. I immediately searched their website for merit aid, and I only found a scholarship that gave money to 7 students are so (too selective for me to waste my time). I know that there are usually private scholarships that are independent from the college but give scholarships for said college. I discovered this with the Robertson Scholars specifically at UNC. There was no mention of it on the merit aid section of UNC’s website, but the scholarship gives a full ride for 30 students or so. Well I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of substantial merit aid scholarships for W&M, as I would truly love to add it to my short list. Again, I will post my application yet again; please don’t get mad at me hahaha. Thanks in advance.

Background:
White male
GPA:
UW: 4.0 W: 4.5
Class Rank:
1/395 in one of the top high schools in the Northern half of Florida
ACT:
33 composite, 34 superscore (taken it twice), but on latest practice tests I’ve taken I’m making consistent composite 35’s.
SAT:
2100 but I took it probably too early, as I hadn’t gotten the English prep I needed. On latest practice tests, I’m consistently getting in the 2200-2300 range.
Essay:
Will be very strong, has always been one of my strongest attributes.
Recommendations:
I have made a personal relationship with every teacher/counselor/administrator I’ve had or worked with, not only in the classroom but also having to deal with them often for student government. I also have recently made a budding friendship with the leading businessman (has the most influence of anyone in my city; more power than the mayor) of my city who has connections at many top schools. They will be superb.
AP:
By graduation, I will have taken and passed: World History, Environmental Science, Calc BC, US History, English Literature, Government, Macroeconomics, English Language and Composition, and Psychology.
Ceritifications: Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Outlook), Autodesk Inventor, and will have much experience in Autocad.
EC’s:
Plan to be Student Body President my senior year (previously served as class secretary).
Plan to be Mu Alpha Theta President my senior year (currently Secretary)
Plan to be National Honors Society President my senior year (currently Historian)
I know this sounds like a lot of “plans,” but I have a pretty good inkling that I’ll win without opposition
Have placed at the regional level in every math competition I’ve been in, and I’m trying to coax our sponsor to take us to state next year.
President and Founder of the Young Political Activists Club (monthly forum to discuss current events, attending political candidate rallies as a group, protesting at the courthouse, etc.)
Treasurer-Elect at the State level for our Student Council Association, so I will be State Treasurer my senior year.
Hosted the state Student Council convention at my high school, where I organized all the speakers, entertainers, etc. and facilitated the budget for said conference (will be my senior year).
District Vice President for Student Council
PTSA Vice President
Served on one or two School Board Committees where I was one of only two students there. Update I have recently talked to the Superintendent, and I will be participating in many more this upcoming year.
Volunteering:
Help out twice a month at a local nursing home
Volunteer of Marco Rubio’s campaign; grassroots volunteering
Slated to volunteer at polling centers on primary night and election night next year
Coach of a youth basketball team
Many in the works currently; these will get much better as junior year progresses

None as a side note… would living with type 1 diabetes have any weight on admissions/scholarships not counting the possible essay topic?

Look at the Financial Aid section. H2A-n.

I hope this helps.

You are not a resident of Virginia. But go ahead and apply.

Do you have a financial sure thing school on your application list?

On one of your other threads, you sort of listed the schools of interest to you. I believe I responded to that thread. You have great stats and the like, but your list is very top heavy…with a number of schools that are highly competitive for admissions. Merit aid is even more competitive at those s hooks (UVA and UNC are the two I remember).

Also, do you need a full tuition or full ride? Because if so, I doubt that you will get this at William and Mary. I think you will, get accepted there…but I think you won’t be able to afford the OOS costs to attend.

is your family income so high that you won’t qualify for need based aid…at all. UVA and UNC meet full need for all accepted students…but you would have to have financial need.

Do your parents plan to contribute to your schooling? If so, how much per year!

And lastly…I see you have Alabama on your list. That’s one financial safety. It would be nice to have two. What is the matter with the public universities in Florida, where I think you live? Are you eligible for Bright Futures?

The collective wisdom of CC regarding competitive scholarships of full tuition or larger magnitude is compiled here:

I don’t claim that the thread is comprehensive, but for the most part colleges that are as well-known as W&M that have awards of this magnitude have been investigated and included.

@thumper1 I don’t really need any other safeties apart from Bama. I’ve got the alumni bonus money plus waived tuition. I don’t like any Florida schools, so that’s the only safety I have. My list is top heavy and I know that. I need pretty close to full tuition. I can pay room and board plus maybe 25% of tuition. Thanks for the help @BobWallace
