Has anyone gotten any Merit Aid offers?
If so please post stats and offers.
My DD got her award letter last week. She is admitted to CFANS honors. She is in state. Her stats are hers so I don’t feel it is appropriate to post them.
@Themommymommy did your DD receive her award letter at the same time as admission notification or after?
And via what channel? Their Internet Account, Email, Traditional Mail,…
It’s funny I didn’t receive any “You’re accepted” email, I opened the Internet ID one day and found out about admission, but no merit scholarships information. So I’m a bit confused at the moment.
Thank you
@ferrarivettel she received online/portal notice of admissions, then a couple of weeks later online/portal notice of admissions to honors then a letters a few weeks later re: admissions then just last week the notice of the scholarships (they were university, college, and department scholarships all in one letter). The scholarships did not get posted on the portal first like the other admissions notifications did.
My DD also received portal notice, then college acceptance letter in the mail, then University acceptance in the mail. Her friend received instate tuition award with University acceptance. DD was hoping for the same but none
Her school counselor called to put in a good word for her so we’ll see. A tuition break would help make it possible for her to attend. Anyone have any suggestions?
@PYC171 my DD got great awards through the college and department she was admitted to. She did get an email before the awards were made that had her fill in activities and the like to match her to scholarships. Maybe double check that your DD has responded to that email, it could provide some additional avenues for scholarships that are specific to her major and the specific college at the U she was admitted to.
@Themommymommy I’ll have her keep an eye out for any emails. I know it’s still early, just looking for strategies to help her explore every avenue. Thanks!
The merit awards aren’t posted on tracker. Admission & Honors are on tracker. It seems like the mailed notification can come a bit later than the tracker notification for admissions and honors.
Merit awards continue through March usually. They are all snail mail. They seemed to start trickling in around November last year and continued on from there. Like admissions/honors, the college you applied to can affect timing for admissions/honors/merit awards and amount available for awards (some colleges have more merit money available).
My son got his merit awards all in one mailing except for a last one at the very end. I know other people got merit awards in different mailings though. It seems unpredictable and feels random when you’re waiting unfortunately.
OOS admitted student. My son just received notification today that he received the Gold scholarship for OOS student. There was no other scholarship information (smaller scholarships or CSE scholarships). Gold scholarships for OOS is, per website, top 10% of class.
Does anyone know if CSE starting sending out scholarships??
Thanks
D2 and S2 received Gold National about 4 weeks ago. Applied to CSE. They have received nothing additional as of yet.
My d was accepted in October and was hoping for Gold National - with OOS tuition hike planned at 15% per year she won’t have the funds. In State Tuition could make the difference for her…waiting.
Does anyone know if Gold National is offered strictly to only those in the top 10% of their graduating HS class? & what if your HS doesn’t rank?
I received my letter today, oos tuition waiver, and 10k/per year. Nothing about honors yet though
I read somewhere that Gold National is offered to the top 10% of incoming class not of HS class. That makes it more vague in terms of trying to figure out if you qualify. My d is in the top 5% of her class but I have no idea where she lands as far as incoming students. Still hoping…waiting.
@optimom171 I never got a straight answer to how they give out the Gold National. Both of my kids received it and both are in the top 4% of their HS class.
@Ksty1098 If you do not mind could you say what college you were accepted into? Would you mind sharing your stats, i.e. ACT, GPA, Class Rank? Are you a NMF?
Here is scholarship information for Gold National. It states top 10% graduating class. I would surmise that this is from HS as they wouldn’t know the top 10% of 2020 graduating class.
National Scholarship Gold National: Covers the full difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates each year for 4 years
National Excellence: Covers 50 percent of the difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates each year for 4 years
Resident of any state, excluding Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin
Top 10% of graduating class
@CyclonesGrad My SAT Score I sent in was 2250/2280 Superscored. I had a 3.788UW/4.515W. Top 24/850 UW 9/850 W. Both W and UW gpa and ranks appeared on my transcript. I am a NMSF, finalist standings are not out yet. If you want to see more detailed stats, I made a thread called Chances for top schools, you can find under my post history which has everything. I just dont feel like rewriting everything.
@ksty1098 No need to see more. Your class rank is very impressive! I saw your ACT was 34, I think. Also noted you live in IL. What HS do you go to? Just asking because we are from IL in D300 where the class is 545. Your HS class is very big!
I go to Lockport D205, yeah its a very large school. However the school has great academic programs, and I have not felt it as such a large school as it actually is.
OK. Far from us. We live in the Algonquin area.
