I was wondering if anyone could tell me what kind of merit aid I could expect from Michigan based on these stats:

ACT: 34
SAT: 2260
PSAT:228 (National Merit Semifinalist)
AP's: 5's in Psychology, Biology, English 11, Statistics, and World History; 4 in US History
GPA: 4.5 or something weighted.. only 2 or 3 B's in 3 years, top 5% of my class, possibly top 1%

ECs:
Captain of the boys tennis team, 4 years varsity, 2 years manager of girls team
Vice Pres of the band
Founder/Pres of Amnesty International Student Group
Swim team 4 years varsity

Jobs:
Month long trail crew job in Colorado this summer, Lifeguarding, teaching swim lessons

I'm out of state, from Illinois. Any insight would be great!

Aid is really rare. Unless you’re a tennis star. Might get some from National Merit.
I would say apply and hope for the best. If they don’t give you much, stick with Illinois.

Oook thanks. That’s what I thought originally, but then I heard somewhere that Michigan gives out a number of full ride and full tuition scholarships. Maybe not?

I don’t think UM gives anything for NMSF… there are just too many kids who apply who are NMSF. My son was NMF, but was admitted before we even knew that. I think merit aid can greatly depend on the college to which you’re applying (engineering, e.g.). I think full rides are extremely rare. My son was in-state, number 2 in class, ACT of 36, NMF, and did not get a full ride.

They do - there’s at least 100 or so full tuition or better scholarships per year. If you’re trying to get one on the basis of academic accomplishment, you’ll need perfect scores (4.0 unweighted GPA, 36 ACT/2400 SAT, college courses, success in academic contests, etc…)

That won’t guarantee a scholarship either, but that’s what it takes to be competitive for one.

Haha. A lot of my friends are on the girls tennis team, and they’re really good, so it’s fun. And it’s just a way to play more tennis.

Hm I wonder if I could actually get a full ride to Illinois… I haven’t heard of them giving out much merit aid. That’d be nice though, my sister goes to Illinois and likes it.
