My daughter received her acceptance from Mines a few weeks ago. She is an out of state student, so we are hoping for merit aid to offset some of the costs. Does anyone know when merit aid notifications go out for admitted students?
Thanks!

The merit aid notifications usually go out 3 to 4 weeks after the admissions notification. Instate merit tops out at 5k and OOS merit caps at 14k.
There are additional more competive scholarships that you could be invited to apply for.
Thanks, Jay1811!
@txserenity may i ask what kind of stats your daughter has? Thanks and good luck.
Also interested in this… will they invite students to the bigger scholarships when they offer the financial aid packages? I talked to an admissions rep, and she said I should be invited (based on stats…), but I’d like to start on these higher scholarships (namely the Harvey Scholarship) as soon as possible.
Also… are they very competitive when it comes to retaining top students? (Will they offer more financial aid for students accepted at top universities like MIT/Caltech if needed?)
ACT: 35 composite (English 36, Math 35, Reading 34, Science 34)
Top 9% of extremely competitive public high school (GPA 4.9 I believe)
AP World History: 5
AP Psychology: 5
AP Spanish: 5
AP English: 5
AP Calculus: 5
AP US History: 4
AP Physics: 3
AP Captone: 3
This year taking 6 AP classes as well.
Paid internship last summer with engineering and cost control team on Gulf Coast’s leading liquid natural gas terminal.
Self-taught HTML, CSS, Java, and Python in addition to participation in Women’s Coding Collective.
A few unique extracurricular activities plus the usual (NHS, choir)
Those are very nice scores, she should be at the top of the OOS merit amounts. They only use ACT/SAT scores and unweighted GPA to determine merit. So if that GPA translates into close to a unweighted 4.0 she will be looking good.
She should be invited as a HS.
D got her acceptance in the mail yesterday. One piece called “Road Map to Mines” has the following information about merit scholarships:
“Scholarship consideration begins in late December, and students are notified on a rolling basis via first class mail from January through March 1st.”
Fingers crossed!
My daughter received her merit award yesterday of $12,000, but no mention of invitation to apply for Harvey Scholarship application which others have mentioned. Any idea when those invitations are issued? Would it have been with her merit aid letter if she was being invited?
I received a merit award today of $14k per year over four years. Just FYI. I will be going to Texas or Texas A&M though for engineering. Also I am OOS (I live in Oregon).
@txserenity I am very impressed with your daughter. Is she in TX?
She does not want to attend any TX schools?
I am in TX also and thinking 7th grade daughter will end up as engineering major.
Thank you, @VANURSEPRAC.
Yes, she has been accepted to University of Texas and Trinity University. They are the only two schools that she chose to apply to in Texas. Trinity especially impressed her during her visit there.
txserenity, my son received his invitation to Harvey Scholarship on December 18th via email (separate from his merit aid email)
@tennisguy63 Thank you!
