Merit aid -- One college more generous than another?

The Schreyer website says, "All first-year Schreyer Scholars entering from high school receive an Academic Excellence Scholarship of $3,500 per year, renewable for a total of eight semesters...In addition to scholarships, many Scholars receive merit awards from their academic colleges at Penn State."

Does anyone know whether one of PSU's colleges (Arts and Sciences, Eberly, etc.) is more likely to award merit $ than the others? I have read on these boards and elsewhere not to expect much merit aid from Penn St., but it is on my high school junior's list so I am thinking ahead. (Major undecided thus far; very interested in both the sciences and humanities.)

Thanks in advance for any insights or info.

Eberly has 10 (maybe 15) full ride scholarships for their very best and most promising freshman. One has to be admitted to the honors college. Schreyers used to also offer a few additional scholarships for their top students.

Most departments have scholarships that they also give sophmore yr etc to well performing students.

All are very competitive.

Do you have to apply for the merit aid, or is it handed out automatically to whoever the colleges choose?

penn state give out very little merit aid
