<p>Son just got acceptance notification to CAS online today and online notification said that financial aid award would come with acceptance letter via snail mail. Does anyone know if any merit awards are sent out with admission letters or is the only thing left to notify student about need based aid??</p>

<p>LY D received notice of Dean's Honorary Scholarship (merit award) from the Engineering school a few days after her acceptance snail mail letter came. It was a nice surprise since she had applied for but didn't receive any of the larger, very competitive scholarships.</p>
<p>And - congrats to your son on his acceptance. Wash U has been an amazing experience for D. Couldn't have asked for more for her!</p>
<p>CopterMom, did the notification of the Honorary Scholarship come via snail mail or e-mail? Also, I remember you posting earlier that your daughter found other people had received this scholarship as well; were they all in the Engineering school or were they from other schools as well?</p>
<p>I was notified in my award letter that I had recieved a Deans Honorary scholarship...I think it is awarded to all schools, as I also recieved a separate engineering scholarship (need/merit based) that I had not filled out a second app for</p>
<p>Hi 12041987! D got notification by snail mail. I looked through LY paperwork for the award letter to determine if it was specifically from the Eng. Dept (I'm thinking it was), but I don't know the answer about each school sponsoring their own Dean's. The best part about the Dean's besides it being awarded for all 4 years is that it is not reduced by any additional outside scholarships she received or may receive in the future.</p>
<p>Thanks for the info! I hope they have something similar for business; I was a bit weary hearing it referred to as the "Dean's" scholarship, as the specific business scholarship that requires a separate application is also called this. I guess I'll have to wait and see if something comes my way!</p>

<p>As per their website - 'The type of Natl Merit Scholarship you receive is determined by the NMSC. If you are selected for the one time $2500 Natl Merit sponsored scholarship, Wash U is committed to supporting this scholarship for you in your upperclass years at Wash U. If you are selected as a finalist and are not offered another type of National Merit Scholarship, you will be eligible for a $2000 annually renewable Wash U sponsored merit scholarship. Declare Wash U as your first choice school by th NM deadline.</p>
