Anybody have any insight into possible merit aid from GW? Of course, it is expensive. I'm applying to the School of Business if that has any bearing on certain scholarships. I have good stats (above middle 50% SAT range, for example) and am hoping to possibly receive some aid.

unless your scores are outstanding (1400+) i wouldn't really plan on it. I thought I would get some merit and I got nothing at all.

I had a 1530 CR + M, ranked 6/330 99.5 weighted average. Didn't really want to get into stats and all, but since you mentioned it perhaps I may be in the range?

you should then... hopefully they give someone some $

my friend who is a freshman at GW got around 20,000 dollars with a 1400 and 4.1 gpa and top 10% so I am relatively certain that you have a chance at merit aid

i have a 1360/2400 and a 2060/2400, good SAT IIs, 31 (32 combined composite) ACT, 3.8uw 4.3w GPA, and top 3% - I got zilch.

haha, you sound pretty bitter. anyone know exactly what specific scholarships there are there? I'm assuming you're applied automatically since I did not spot any separate applications during the GW app?

haha, nah, i was just doing calculus homework (and heceforth hating the world). here is a link to GW's scholarships:

and, even if you dont get merit aid (which I assume you will), GW offers a 12K per semester scholarship to individuals who maintain a 3.8 GPA (I believe they call it the 'President's Scholarship for Continuing Students).

personally I think the reason I didn't get merit aid was because I applied ED, I was only a National Merit Commended Scholar, and I have a TON of AP credit (which makes me less desirable in terms of tuition - perhaps they felt that I'd be getting enough of a break?). Anyways, that's what I tell myself. Sigh. Good luck to you though!

yah i have similar stats to buff and wrongly assumed from my interviewer telling me that i should be eligible that i would get merit aid. with your sat score though you should actually be offered some.
