I am thinking right now that Rice is my first choice for college. I am probably going to early decision to Rice. Does anyone have an idea for stats that had gotten merit aid at Rice? Did anyone actually get accepted into Rice and received merit aid? If you did and don’t mind telling how much you got and what your stats are? Thanks in advance
My D and a couple of other very highest stats URMs got what I believe is their best Merit offer of $28Kish per year. We’re talking 35/36 ACT and basically 4.0 UW.
Thank you
@curryking821 I truly believe that Rice merit aid does not solely depend on stats. While I can’t claim to know what criteria they are looking for each year, I believe it has to be more holistic than just high test scores etc. As a member of the class of 2021 I received the Trustee Distinguished scholarship with pretty average sat/act scores (33 on the act for reference). However, I feel that my essays and extracurriculars were the outstanding parts of my application.
From what I’ve found out, different scholarships follow different criteria including solely merit based, legacy, talent based, holistic, diversity and athletic. They have a huge endowment and it helps. Financial aid is very generous as well.
I hadn’t looked at this forum in years, since two of my children graduated from Rice in 2016. This is just “anecdata”, but my children each received ~$500-$1000 their junior and senior year (merit based). btw, they are not URM. They each scored 35 on their ACT (one scored a 2360 on the SAT, the other ?), and both graduated from Rice as Phi Beta Kappa. I know one of my son’s roommates received little to no scholarships as well. (again, not a URM).
I know another Rice graduate, also a Phi Beta Kappa, who received a generous scholarship (financial based).
Best wishes.
You can look at Rice’s Common Data Set to see how many students receive scholarship aid. All of the students accepted by Rice are outstanding, and most do not get any scholarship offer. Rice focuses on meeting full financial need and attracting a diverse class. https://oir.rice.edu/sites/g/files/bxs1496/f/2017-18%202.%20CDS_2017-2018_WEBSITE.pdf
