Hi:)
I am an intenrational student from Asia
I know that on WUSTL's website it says we can apply for the scholarships
However, if I don't apply for those
will WUSTL still consider its applicants for other merit based aid?
or does everyone have to apply to receive aid?

How compeitive are the scholarship applications?

All merit-based aid, except maybe for those few rare ones for sports (of which I have heard of but have not confirmed), require a separate application. WashU may still give you aid if you apply for financial aid. You have to apply for the merit-based aid to receive them. They are often very competitive as only a few percentage of the people accepted receive those. However, that should not dissuade you from applying, as they are often a strong indicator of interest, and if you get one, no matter how small or large, you will receive a letter from WashU two weeks earlier than the actual date of acceptance telling you that you received the scholarship (which is also an automatic acceptance to WashU).

but if I applied for financial aid, that will lower my chances of admission right?
but scholarships, like Lien or AR, are all limited to around 15 people, that can be really competitive…

I am an international student who has no clue about college applications. I applied to WUSTL for Fall, 2011 and got into the wait-list. WUSTL asks to submit a separate application for scholarships by the deadline Jan 15. Honestly, all other colleges that I applied didn’t require applications for scholarships so I did not know that I have to submit a scholarship application to WUSTL. And on that Jan 15, it was absolutely rush hour for me because it was the same date with my IELTS exam. Just now when I learnt I’m in the wait-list, I found out that it was necessary to submit applications for scholarships! I just don’t know what to do! If anyone has the scholarship application form for engineering scholarships from WUSTL, plz share!!!
Icyquiz is online now

The application for all of the merit scholarships has closed, and finalists have already been notified. There really isn’t too much you can do at this point.
