Question about Merit-Based scholarships

So I recently read that even if you don't think you are going to get a merit-based scholarship, it is still a good idea to apply for one to show interest in the school.

However, my question is, are you allowed to submit merit-based scholarship essays at a later date? I would like to submit my WUSTL application this week, but I am not going to be done with my scholarship application. So could I submit that sometime during the first week of January, and it be ok? Or do they have to be submitted together/ at the same time?

Scholarship applications are in no way related to the Common Application. You can submit them at any time.
