Merit - In State Resident

What merit would my daughter earn with a 4.05 Weighted/3.88 Unweighted and 31 ACT? She has a strong extra curricular track record with varsity sports, captain, link crew, student gov, etc… She will pursue an english major.

I would guess very little in merit money from CU Boulder. They are not known for giving much merit to instate kids. I have seen profiles of kids with better stats get nothing. My own daughter will be applying there for engineering and has better stats and I am not expecting much if anything in the way of merit $.

Interesting. Is it really that good of school? It’s not UCLA, UVA, etc

It’s not that it is that good of a school. It’s more a matter of they do not need to offer the merit. They get plenty of smart kids applying from in-state and plenty of full pay applicants from OOS.

It looks like your D would get the automatic renewable Esteemed Scholarship of $3,500/year for 4 years at CU Boulder. Amount depends on ACT/SAT and GPA. I believe there are also automatic scholarships for OOS with different ACT/SAT and GPA requirements. If you are a Colorado resident, don’t forget to apply for the Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF) which pays $75/credit hour, with a limit of ?

She might get better merit from DU.

CU has automatic merit based on GPA/Test scores as stated above. Also might be eligible for $1000 regent scholarship if she’s the top student attending CU from her high school.

Good to know about Colorado Opportunity Fund (COF). Will everyone receive it, if qualified? Or will it ‘select’? Will it consider financial status?

As long as you are a Colorado resident and graduated from a Colorado High School you will receive the COF $.
It is not a scholarship and financial status is not considered. Just make sure you apply for it on time, before $ is gone.
