I was hoping to get any insight from someone who has gone through an appeals process for a merit scholarship, our son got into the Business School and was awarded a Merit scholarship, he was able to get substantially larger Merit scholarships at several other universities with similar major/program. Drexel is his first choice but trying to make the best financial decision. Has anyone had success with an appeal for more Merit scholarship? 4.0 student with plenty of extracurriculars and currently taking 3 college courses via high school.
Absolutely nothing to lose by explaining to Drexel that they are the student’s first choice; but with better offers in hand - and show them them the offers - the student will not be able to attend unless Drexel can increase the offer.
It wouldn’t hurt to try. The one thing we learned today is that during co-op terms, students do not need to pay tuition. Some students use their co-op money to pay for tuition during class terms.
Hi! We did this last year. Our son is currently a freshman; he received $30600 total — $15k in merit and &15600 Drexel grant. Other schools offered him more, we submitted those offers to Drexel and also made the case that our efc was artificially high for 2020. I was right on that (our efc has since dropped by almost 15k) but in the end it didn’t matter. Our appeal was denied. A word of caution, you only get one appeal per year. So if something changes down the line, as it did for us four months after the appeal, they won’t even consider it. They’ll tell you can address it the following year when your aid package is released (and you can appeal anew).
