Merit Scholarship Chances Elsewhere

Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone had any idea how the results of the USC Merit Scholarship reflect at other schools. I was one of the 300 (of 22,000!) chosen to interview for the Trustee Scholarship. I had only been admitted to safeties thusfar, and deferred by MIT EA, so I was excited. When I got there, the other kids interviewing for Trustee were likelies at Harvard, admits to Yale, admits to Stanford, etc. Does anyone know if the high regard USC had for me as an admit will translate at other universities?

PS) USC is definitely a top choice of mine, don't get me wrong, but I am just curious if anyone has insight into this question.

I doubt it. Most schools will have different criteria for their merit scholarships.

The schools you mention (Harvard, Yale, Stanford) do not offer merit scholarships.

^^ he’s wondering what his “chances” of acceptance are at other colleges, not whether he will win merit money from them. And I’d say your chances are excellent. My son, a Trustee scholar [who was bumped up] was accepted at every other college he applied to save Stanford. That included 2 Ivys’. [He had all B’s his first year of HS, which made his chances at Stanford low]

Hmmm… The title of his thread, **“Merit Scholarship Chances Elsewhere,” **certainly suggests he is wondering about his merit scholarship chances elsewhere… I guess he just wasn’t being clear.

Being selected for a Trustee interview suggests you are a very qualified candidate. Acceptance by USC won’t affect your chances at other schools, but your fine qualifications that garnered that acceptance will.

USC trustee Interview
UVA likely
lots of merit money at every school i’ve been accepted to so far
Stanford SCEA reject…

haha, so idk, we’ll see what happens when i’ve heard back from everywhere…

(basically, my point is that different schools have different standards. just because you’re accepted one place/offered a scholarship doesn’t necessarily translate into an acceptance/scholarship at another school)

^^ what minniemouse said. :)

Thanks, I guess I mistitled the forum. I’m just curious how it turned out for other students who were selected as Trustee finalists, and if I have a good shot. Thanks for your input, and sorry if the title confused anyone!

D attended the USC Trustee interview
MIT EA Acceptance

Still waiting on the others…

I’d say you have a pretty good chance of being accepted to other good programs. :)

Does the correlation between Trustee interviewee and chances at the selective ivies somewhat equal to the Presidential interviewees? The Presidential was about 600-800 invitations for the 22,000 that applied, so I presume that means the Presidential (as well as the Trustees) have good chances at ivies?

Honestly, I wouldn’t worry about it zulatooka. There are only ten days left til ivy decisions. You will find out soon enough if presidential (or trustee) candidacy correlates to ivy acceptances.

And anyways, just because someone on college confidential says “OMG u got a trustee offer!!! ur so gonna get in2 harvard~~~!!” doesn’t mean anything  It’s better to expect the worst and be surprised than expect the best and be disappointed.

Remember, each school is different. I know a guy who got into MIT, but waitlisted at Wash U. Make sense? Nope! But I would consider yourself a strong candidate for ivies/other strong universities. Now of course, you can be a strong candidate and be rejected everywhere, or get in. I would be grateful you are into USC with a big chance at a great scholarship! Just a couple days dude!

I know, but the waiting is killing me.
