Merit Scholarship/Full Ride

Does anyone know specifications or anyone know one who has received a full or near full ride merit-based scholarship tuition at JHU?
In addition, with need based out of the question, how is the merit financial aid at JHU as a whole? Any different for BME majors?

Hopkins has exactly four merit based scholarships, two of which are sponsored by ROTC and AFROTC. Assuming you aren’t planning on joining ROTC, neither of the other two scholarships has a formal application. You basically apply, and the admissions officers will screen the applications for suitability for the merit based scholarships.

You can read here for specific information, but know that the full ride scholarship is very rare.

@saif235 Alright, thanks for the reply!

(Current freshman) I am the recipient of one of the merit-based scholarships, the Hodson Trust, and it is exactly half the full cost of attendance. There was no extra application for the Hodson (they just award based on your application), and there is no special treatment for BME majors. There is also the Bloomberg scholarship, which is merit based, but only those with financial need are considered for it.

When do you find out if you got one of the scholarships? Does it come with the financial package or do you find out separately?

@whynotnow if you’re given a hodson scholarship there will be some kind of indication in your admissions portal when you receive the general admissions results.

@saif235 Thanks!

are the merit scholarships only full-ride or nothing, or are there some where they take off like half tuition and smaller amounts

@DonkeyKong466 Here’s a link to the information on Hopkins merit scholarships: http://finaid.johnshopkins.edu/prosp_stud_scholar.html

There are two non-ROTC merit based scholarships at Hopkins. One is a full ride which is only awarded to one incoming freshman engineer. The other is the Hodson scholarship - basically 50% off - which is awarded to about 20 incoming freshmen per year.

If you apply ED to Hopkins is it still possible to get the Hodson or is it used more to entice people to attend when the RD acceptances come out?

I believe all freshman applicants are eligible for hodson .
