Just wanted to pass on for everyone’s info, that the merit scholarship letters are starting to be sent out. My DS got one today awarding him a Buckeye Scholarship and a Provost Scholarship. Thank you Ohio State for being so generous. Good Luck to everyone, I hope you hear good news.

Did they list it anywhere on your child’s online student account information?

Thanks and congrats!

hey…I am a hopeful Mom from the hispanic student forum…when did your kid apply? Mine didn’t apply for the Morril or honors etc. but hoping that he is still eligible for Buckeye and maybe more.

I don’t know about the Buckeye — but I’m pretty sure to qualify for any of the published merit awards and the morrill scholarship, applications had to be in by the Dec. 1 deadline. They extended the Morrill for a week because of some computer glitches, but you had to receive an email invite for the Morrill.

MY DS applied for admission around the first week of October, it was one of the first applications he applied for. He was admitted to Ohio State around the first week of December if I remember correctly. He received his Morrill invite around the second week of November because it was due Dec.1. Honors college I think is automatic and he got that around the end of December in a letter. I hope that answers your questions.

I did talk to admissions today about the National Merit/National Hispanic awards and she said that a second merit awards letter could be sent out around the end of March beginning of April which may include that if he is awarded it. It is very confusing (I have had at least 4 phone calls/emails about it) but some awards can be stacked, some not so if he gets anything else, it will come in this second letter and then their can be a shifting of his awards. It doesn’t look like they all can be combined because some are consumed by others (for example a buckeye and a morrill level 3 cannot be combined since they both are for the out of state portion of tutition).

I have not checked his OSU online account. Sorry haven’t had the time to trackdown his signin id.

I’m an OOS NH scholar, received a letter that awarded me Maximus ($2,700/yr) & Buckeye ($7,200/yr) scholarships. Didn’t apply for Maximus Competition and Morrill. Can I safely assume that I will also get the in-state tution ($8,700/yr) as a Hispanic scholar, total of around $18k/yr scholarship?

sms92, I have gotten different answers from different departments of OSU but the last person I spoke to seemed the most knowledgable. She said that NH Scholar is not automatic and that they will make the award at the end of March so you can’t safely assume. She did say that they try to give out out as much money as the person is eligible for so that is good news. I don’t know if the Maximus can be combined with the other scholarsships. As my DS and I discussed yesterday, I guess we will really know the answer at the end of March when financial awards are made because the hispanic scholar will be on that notification. The provost scholarship my DS got is also 2700 a year so we are in the same boat.

Thanks itsv. I need to wait till end of March to decide anyway because of that is when the UCs acceptance comes out. I’ll be at OSU on 2/12 for the Biomed major interview and a tour of the campus.

Thought the Provost is $2100. Did they change it?

itsv, the maximus award is not added to any other award, but blended in. My dd won the Medalist award through the Maximus competition, which was then replaced by the distinguished scholarship for being NMF, and then the NM award sponsored by OSU was blended in…so she ended up with full tuition only. We tried to argue for the NM award to be added on as it was their decision to forego the Medalist award for the Distinguished award (told us that in the Medalist notification letter…that if she was a NMF, she would get the Distinguished instead and someone else would get her Medalist award).

ddd728, Thanks for the info. It does appear that they do blend scholarships like you report which can be confusing. We had thought my DS would have 3 chances for a full-ride (tuition and R&B) with adding the scholarships togeather, but it looks like that is only possible through the first level of Morrill. Does you daughter like OSU?

she does like OSU…she’s joined a number of different student groups and found an outlet for her creative side, not her major so missing it. In an honors dorm, which she likes for the quiet but does miss the social outlet non-honors dorms provide. She attended a very challenging high school and hasn’t found academics too daunting as of yet…says there are many very unprepared students there and is not too surprised to hear of OSU’s selectivity this year.

D received National Buckeye scholarship and Trustees scholarship today. Applied for the Morrill Scholarship but have not heard anything yet.

I received the National Buckeye and Trustees scholarships today. It’s a pretty sweet $8grand.

I wish it was a tad more though, I’m out of state and the OSU pricetag is still a tad too high.

I got trustee. Probably going to McGill anyways, but it was nice I suppose.

So no one has heard from Morrill yet? Does anyone know when they are supposed to get back to us?

D has not heard. I think it is supposed to be in the middle of March.

when will the special scholarship come out?

When my son was applying as a HS senior, he got his main university merit award notification sooner than his final actual financial aid award. He got his final package around April and it included additional grant/scholarship money and loan offers that met his COA less EFC.

I am a mom of a well rounded, pretty smart (ACT 31) average white male. It kind of puts him in a group that is just shy of major scholarships. Unfortunately, he is not quite enough of a ‘minority’ I am afraid and I hope his averageness does not go against him as far as the Morrill goes. We are from a very rural area, which does qualify, but ??? who knows! I am extremely hopeful that he gets something from the Morrill. If not, he may not get to go to OSU and it is very much his first choice. We will remain hopeful!
