actstudent - no problem! I actually put that little note for myself - I clicked in here and thought, “I just posted a response to that… why isn’t it showing up???” and then figured out it was in two places. THIS morning I am thinking duplication is a good thing as hearts are racing and everyone is checking status!

We got it today.

@MOSLEED 102 did you get the status change and the packet today? What scholarship was there?

Congratulations MOSLEED102! You can post your acceptance here; http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1608845-fall-2014-usc-decisions-stats-only-thread.html#latest

Like actstudent, I am curious to hear if you had the “acted on…” status and if a scholarship letter was included!

So excited to be welcomed as a member of the Trojan Family for 2014!! Although both of my parents and my grandpa went to USC so I think I already was a member haha.

My letter says that I am a finalist for the Presidential scholarship. Does that mean that I am out of the running for full tuition?

CONGRATULATIONS! What we have observed here on the forum is that those who go to the interviews come away with, at minimum, a Director’s scholarship of $4,000/year so you can be pretty confident of that. “Most” (so… greater than 50%) of those who interview come away with the scholarship for which they interviewed. We DO see a small number (VERY small) bumped up to a Trustee from Presidential, so though not likely it is possible. As I said at the outset, others may be bumped down to Presidential, Dean’s (1/4 tuition) or Director’s (reported here in amounts ranging from $4,000/year to $12,500/year).

alamemom, you are right, $23,000. Nothing to scoff at if they are accepted, but with other offers that are full rides or make it so we can send 2 through at the price of 1 at USC, I don’t know. I should just stop thinking about it and wait until all the data is available and then worry. Ha, like that will ever happen, worry is my middle name.

3tallblonds, you are in a unique situation. Congratulations on raising such high-achieving twins. If you choose to apply for FA, your COA will be approx $126K. (sorry, I just fainted…ok, I’m back) From that, the FA office will subtract any merit awards, so if both your Ds are NMF that’s approx 23K/D or 46K so the balance is 80K for the two. If your EFC is $50K (very high in this example, but you can adjust up or down), your family would still receive $30K in FA–most likely with about 5500 per D in fed loans (total 11K) and you’d receive an additional 19K in USC FA grants – money that is not paid back. So, in my made-up example, your family would pay $50K/year, the daughters would borrow $11K per year (it goes up a bit soph year) and the rest would be paid for by USC grants. In this example, even if the Ds did not earn NMF merit awards, the FA grants would just make up that difference. Since USC is an all-grant (no gap) school, the good news is all money beyond the fed student loans is not paid back. The bad news–always–is that each university uses their own formula to figure out the family contribution portion–and it can have no connection to reality. Still, some might think that paying $25K for each student to attend a private university is equal or less than sending them (full pay) to a UC. And we’ve found our sons received additional merit grants from USC after April 1st. This is a tough time, but we are hoping you find a wonderful school (and great $$) for your family.

I got a status change and no packet. Anyone else?

They just mailed them Friday. Give the USPS a day or two or more to deliver.

3tallblondes - don’t forget to include travel costs back and forth for them and you (if you come to move in/oreintation, or to visit, etc) as your own COA. People forget that and it really adds up for regular trips home and more if there is an unplanned trip in either direction.

actstudent, others whose status changed well now it is back to the old status…can u please post if it is so!

Blueskies, so true, so true. We have family in the area who can help them, but frankly, we aren’t all that keen on them being THAT far away. We know so many kids who have transferred to be closer to home after 1-2 years. It’s not a matter of being homesick but rather practicality.

Thank you madbean. I should just wait to see. But I have to be honest, my husband and I have been sweating this one out for a year now. I’m guessing our EFC is going to put us out of the ballpark. I need to retire someday and the fact is that we have jobs in unstable businesses. It’s just too risky.

@rani9993, mine changed back also! I live in Illinois but didn’t get anything today in the mail

Just received the big acceptance packet in the mail down in South Florida. I had the status change as mentioned in the original post, yet the status was quickly removed this morning I believe.

To everyone still waiting, I wish you the best of luck. And I personally do believe that if your status was changed, you have a great chance of being accepted as a scholarship finalist!

I live in southern california and haven’t gotten a packet yet…does this mean that I probably won’t get one?

did anyone get a packet from central NC?

ETA: My question was answered! Thanks.

New to CC!
Got my acceptance package today
Finalist for the Trustee Scholarship!

S received the big acceptance packet in the mail down in AZ. S had the status change on Thurs/Fri and the status was quickly reverted back to the old this morning… Wishing all the others tons of good luck!!
