Any hope for a merit scholarship still?

I applied to USC by the Dec. 1 deadline for the School of Cinematic Arts... Now I'm hearing that people who got scholarships have already gotten their acceptances and people who haven't got letters saying so but that they were still in the running for admission... I haven't gotten anything from them and my status still says "We have received your application and it appears we require no additional information at this time... blah blah blah"

Should I give up hope for a scholarship at this point? I wasn't hoping for the presidential one or anything but maybe the dean's... I don't have a great SAT score compared to other people but I think the rest of my stats are good...

3.91 GPA UW, 4.6 W, I'm in IB, in top 3% of my senior class (around 600 people)
SAT 2050
Editor-in-Chief of the school newspaper
Varsity swimmer
NHS
Job as a graphic designer for a trophy company
I ran a community service project at a nursing home for the past few years where we recorded elderly people recounting their life story and burned DVDs to hand down to their families, and I have been running volunteer activities at another nursing home for the past 8 years

I already sent in my senior grades... 6 A's, 2 B's, all IB classes... so is USC still making decisions on that or is it too late? It's my #1 school and I really want to go there but tuition is ridiculously expensive >:/

Thanks!

What major are you applying to?

Film production! And I just read that someone got accepted to USC but hasn’t heard from SCA yet… so apparently you get that decision separately?

Heyy I’m a film production applicant too. I got a mail saying I haven’t made it for the trustee and presidential scholarships, but that I’m still being considered for other scholarships. Is this different from the letter just saying “still running for admission”?
djennings, maybe your mail hasn’t got to you yet. Are you an international student? I ask cuz I am and the mail took about two weeks to get to me judging by the date on the letter.

That’s what I was wondering about… I haven’t gotten any of those letters… I live in Colorado so I’m not international lol but I still haven’t heard anything… I got into LMU and Chapman Dodge College with the Chancellor’s scholarship so those are good back ups but USC is still my first choice so I’m kind of worried :/

There are quite a few additional merit scholarships available at USC overall and in cinema specifically, including a 1/4 tuition Dean’s Scholarship & others. Keep your grades up & be patient, providing updates as you receive noteworthy new awards. Good luck!

USC can take a while to let folks know. A kid I know was admitted late in March for engineering. Film production is very competitive & when a friend’s D was applying to transfer into it, she was notified VERY late because they really liked her work and were trying to find space for her.
