A friend’s child intended to apply Early Action, but made a mistake about sending test scores, and they didn’t make it in time. She’s been notified by the university that her application will be considered Regular Decision, not Early action. She had applied EA because of the potential for merit scholarships (4.0 unweighted, very high SAT scores, National Merit, etc.). Does anyone know if she will be eligible for any other merit scholarships applying Regular Decision? Thank you in advance.
Some college merit scholarships are awarded on a rolling basis (such as CoE; not sure about LSA). Since students are reviewed for these after they are admitted, you are encouraged to apply as early as possible and EA students receive first consideration. My D (junior now) received one even though she missed the EA deadline and was admitted in mid-Jan.
Thanks @momof2teengirls. Can you give me some idea of the size of these scholarships? My impression is that the student involved will not be eligible for anything that has a need element. She is not getting any help from family or school in figuring things out, and I literally know nothing about Univ of Michigan, so I’m trying to get a rough idea if missing EA deadline means no real chance of her going to Michigan. She is out of of state, and is already admitted to her instate flagship, so if she doesn’t get significant merit aid (are there any out-of-state tuition waivers?) at Michigan - much preferred by her to in-state flagship - then much pressure to attend in-state will be brought to bear. Again, my tnanks.
For OOS, these scholarships can be $20k. Material, but may still not bring Michigan down to level comparable to her in-state flagship. I do not know of any OOS waivers.
Did you have financial need also? My d is oos and was told merit aid is tied to financial need in most cases
Thanks @AZ2019 . I believe that the student is not applying for financial aid.
