Merit Scholarships

I applied for alumni scholarships-has anyone heard about those yet?

I’m not sure why, but unfortunately Thornton does not give very big talent scholarships, but of course, anything is better than nothing.

My son got his a couple of weeks after acceptance, if I recall. If you call the Thornton Admissions office, they will tell you when they’re going out.

I applied by the december first deadline but haven’t heard anything yet. /: has anyone heard?

I’m going to bump this thread because I was wondering if anyone has heard by now?

i might not count, but i got my scholarship with my acceptance in the middle of january, dont worry guys, its on the way, i got an email from the office saying that everyone should get something by this friday in the mail if they got everything in in time

Called fin aid office today. (still no email or snail mail or online posting of package). They said that they had all the necessary forms fafsa/css tax returns…but didn’t have my D’s social sec. number with the info. I said “really? It’s on her tax return.” They said, yes, but that doesn’t mean it gets put in with the formal “application” information. I of course gave it to them…and then said. So just a word to the wise. Find a way to get the SS# onto the app. My D did all of her apps on her own (and did a great job by the way). But it’s worth a phone call to the admiss/fin aid people if you’re not getting a response.

I received zero scholarships - none…and received my FA package online on USC access over the weekend. Try there.

Not going though. Made the decision to go to Jacobs, after seeing the FA.

Oh, I don’t qualify for financial aid because I’m an international so the merit scholarships are the only hope I’ve got. emailed them but they haven’t replied, I might try calling them later on tonight (which is morning in LA). Haha. Thanks guys!

Merit scholarships for USC came out on 4/1/2011 - you need to call.

Dear XXXXXXXXX

Congratulations on your admission to the USC Thornton School of Music. This offer of admission signifies our belief that you are one of a small number of promising young artists whose contribution to the life of the Thornton School would be invaluable.

You have been carefully considered not only for admission to the program, but also for Thornton scholarship funding. However, the ever-increasing competitiveness of our programs does not allow that these scholarships be offered to all of the talented students who are admitted to the Thornton School. We will unfortunately not be able to extend to you an offer of music scholarship

^ I am not sure that means that merit scholarships for USC came out on 4/1/2011. (In fact I know that they have been coming out since the end of January  ) That letter looks more like it was saying the addressee was not getting a scholarship. They may be sending those out as they narrow the pool down to the scholarship awardees. But that is just a guess.

CONGRATS on your admission to Thornton!

I called and they said I didn’t get anything. ): but still thanks for all the responses!
