I am looking at some schools such as U illinois, Ohio State, Purdue, Michigan... does anyone know what kind of scholarships they offer for test scores and gpa? If you are an alum to any of these schools or were offered scholarships after applying please let me know your SAT/ACT score and what you were offered. I want to get a feel for what i can expect in the way of scholarships when i apply to these schools. Feel free to give me estimates as well... ACT:34 GPA:4.0

I have friends who have gotten good merit aid at Ohio State, and I think their stats are lower than yours.

I've also heard that Michigan gives good aid especially since your stats are pretty nice.
By the way- you're missing an h.

You can look at the web page for each school under merit scholarships to find out what the "minimum" scholarship amount you might get with your stats would be. I just looked at Purdue, and it looks like you would $8000 in state or $10000 out of state with a chance for more.

My s had about your stats and is going to Ohio State. He is receiving the Maximus for $2700 and an engineering department scholarship for $2000 from the university itself. He also is receiving some outside scholarships. He is in state. If you are out of state for Ohio, you would probably qualify for "in-state tuition" as well. The Maximus competition at OSU is quite competitive (almost 1000 students competed this year for 90 scholarships), but is the chance to earn full tuition or full everything.

Based on your school choices, I'm guessing that you might be going into engineering. If so, the engineering departments usually have some scholarship money, so don't forget to apply for that (usually a separate form). Good luck.

yeah i am thinking of engineering

anybody else that has either gone to big ten schools or knows someone who has attended and who has received merit scholarships? Include your stats also please. Thanks

You have a good chance for merit money at UM, but there is absolutely no way to know whether or not you will get it. I know some kids who got $1500 for the first year & no more ... with stats around yours. However, I have also heard of others who got a lot more (they seem to be OOS). If you are a female, you would probably get merit $ in engineering. Like ALL merit opportunities, it is not guaranteed unless the school offers guaranteed merit ... so you need to hedge your bets & apply to several schools where you are competitive for merit. I would say you are at all the schools you name.

Expect is a very bad word to use in this context. One should NEVER expect anything. This board is full of students who expected & ended up very disappointed.

My D had stats like yours and was offered a $20,000 x 4 years merit scholarship at Michigan. But then she went to an Ivy which gives her > $25,000 a year in need-based aid (family income around $100,000), so that turned out to be a much better deal. Dad II's D turned down Ivies for a huge scholarship at Ohio State. But be aware of why merit scholarships exist. It's the way that schools tap into prospective students who are in talent pools that the school could otherwise not hope to tap. That means that you will be among the top students who you encounter at the campus that gives you big merit money. Not inherently a problem, but students with your credentials often want to be challenged and motivated by equally accomplished peer groups. You'll be that university's resource for motivating its other students.

yeah im ok with that though. i wouldn't mind at all going to ohio state if they offered enough in scholarsip money

Did you think at all about Miami (Oxford)? You would get a lot there. There is Harrison (full ride) scholarship (accepts about 43). Honors program accepts 200, you will get in. If you are in Ohio, your tuition most definately will be covered. There are additional scholarships after Freshman year, and they are very substantial.
