Your family will be able to give you $25,000 a year? If so, you need an award that covers the balance. UAH is financially reachable. So are several other schools in this thread…if you got a full or most tuition award.
@thumper1 yes, does that sound crazy to you?
I really think you can look around and find a college that has a net cost of $25,000. If you are willing to take the $5500 Direct Loan AND get a job ASAP, that will open up some additional doors for you.
If your family can afford $25,000 a year, you might find UAH quite affordable. @mom2collegekids
If parents will pay $25k per year, then certainly UAH would be affordable. So would UAB.
UA would give $20k per year…combined with parents 25k, it would be affordable. The school might be more attractive to an OOS Student over UAH or UAB.
Getting a 1420 SAT would mean $26k per year.
Don’t let this stop you from applying with an ACT 36. UAH is known for throwing out extra merit. Your kid may also be awarded department awards.
What’s his major? Career goal?
Is he a likely NMSF?
Your student currently qualifies for the above at UA…have you visited?
@mom2collegekids My son only had a 34. He has Presidential al UA, and that is his first pick now. We looked at all three (UAB, UAH, and UA). He also is in Early College at UA and did Summer on Campus. We are pretty impressed with all UA has to offer our son for Engineering. UAH would have been the least expensive option, even without housing in the mix, and he did like the campus. He loved Tuscaloosa.
He would have considered UAH if a 34 still got housing. Without it, I think UA is the better choice, especially as he is going in with a lot oh AP and DE credit. He can use remaining money towards grad school. Any of the three would have been a decent choice. We thought it was obvious that all three schools are investing in facilities and programs for students.
