Hi i am a new student to UCSC, and since I didnt visit UCSC i just pick my college randomly. I kno it is too late for me to ask how merrill college is, cuz i cannot switch to another other dorm anyways. But can anyone tell me how MERILL COLLEGE is please?

Youtube is your friend for UCSC Colleges. Stereotypes about it is that it is quiet, isolated (its on a steep hill), and it supposedly is the college with the most hard drug users. Also rumors about it having a lot of alcohol are out there (on youtube at least).

On the other hand, it is a very accepting college. It’s theme promotes diversity, and there are many different ways it is shown around the college.

I’m from Merrill and I agree with @Brink22 don’t follow the stereotypes. You’ll find a lot of different people there it depends on who you hang out with. One year I was on a very noisy hall full with a bunch of social party people. The next year I was on a hall full of quiet people so it’s a real mix.

The stereotypes do not define everybody, but they are definitely true. There is another thread somewhere saying how somebody regrets not learning about the stereotypes for crown college, because they were true.

The college stereotypes often hold true, but there are always exceptions. If you want a social life, look and you’ll find it. If you want a quiet life that follows Merrill’s stereotype, you can find that too! I know people at Merrill who have been on quiet floors, people who have been on loud party floors, etc. Sometimes what you want will come to you, and sometimes you’ll have to look for it, but it won’t take long for you to find a good social life as long as you give a little effort. Santa Cruz is never short on a variety of people. Entering college, you’ll find a lot of open-minded people, so just put yourself out there and you’ll find what you want.
