So I dropped AP bio (long story which would not garner sympathy among the CC audience) but before dropping it I already put down AP bio on fine of my college apps when they ask what my senior course load is… Am I screwed??
Did you already submit the apps? You know that it’s only September.
@BeCambridge yes, I did. If it even matters, they are all mostly my safety schools, which maybe wouldn’t care as much?
If they are safeties, your senior schedule wouldn’t matter. Even if it mattered to reach and target schools, your case might be an extenuating circumstance that can be explained clearly and dealt with. It’s not the end of the world, applicant.
Go email each of them right now and ask if it changes anything. Don’t just take the word of strangers on the internet.
I would notify your schools of the change in schedule. Schools are admitting you based on the proposed schedule, and some schools will hold you to it or rescind. Even colleges that some consider a safety such as the CSU system. What some call a safety is not always, unless you mean they are completely un- selective and admit 80 plus pct of applicants.
@BeCambridge @bodangles @BrownParent Thanks for all the advice!
Colleges aren’t admitting you based only on your senior schedule, but they may consider everything in your application and a discrepancy may raise a flag. It also may be an issue if they require certain classes which will not be met due to the change.
Simply send the admissions contact at each school a revised senior schedule. If you feel it deserves an explanation, provide a brief one. Whenever something changes that may be of any significance you should update your application accordingly.
No one said only on your Sr schedule that would be redic to assume.
Actually, I’d recommend you to read this great thread detailing Stanford’s policy and even a comment by a former MIT admissions officer: [“Whoever has the most APs wins”]("Whoever has the most APs wins" - #46 by carolyn - Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums). In short, it is saying that admissions officers get saddened when they see a student taking, literally, the most complicated senior load while not paying a modicum of interest to whatever he likes, be it theater or athletics or community service.
Keep this in mind. I also second @bodangles comment. Though my opinion is really a fact, some colleges may beg to disagree.
Our kid’s GC was quite adamant that they notify colleges via email about changes in the courses they were taking. Now if you have some good news to put in the same email (award, leadership position, etc) that has happened since you put the app in, tell them that as well.
@BrownParent You stated “Schools are admitting you based on the proposed schedule, and some schools will hold you to it or rescind.” Not sure what you thought was redic to assume from that. I thought your statement was clear. I was trying to address OPs fear of messing up. OP didn’t necessarily mess up unless he/she will now be short of science requirements. OP changed his/her schedule, which is not uncommon. If anything material changes in app, one simply needs to update app file. Agree with @intparent’s statement. OP you have plenty of time to update app with that information PLUS any new positive updates such as a new honor, award, position, etc.
Umm :-?
