Hello. I have been recently worrying about my sophmore year (2 cs, 3 bs, 3 as-- all in honors/ ap classes). Freshman year was almost all as (except for one b). This year everything was more stressful, i did a lot of ecs and volunteer work and even a part time job,i also had a death in the family as well as an ill family member. With all of this added up, my grades went downhill. Next year i will be taking 3 aps 3 honors and one regular class (precalc). My gpa (uw) will probably be 3.6- 3.7 by the time i graduate I plan on getting all as (since my study habits have now changed for the better), doing more volunteerwork, joining more clubs, etc. I also have a few interesting ecs that include teaching a very ancient, old language to children at my church on weekends. These are not my only ecs though! I plan on doing well on the sats since my soph year psat was pretty good (194) and i plan on increasing it to above 2200. All in all, i would like to know how badly my sophomore year grades will affect me at nyu, ucb, ucla, usc, columbia, stanford, cornell, georgetown, u chicago(im not really sure where i want to go, as you can see) thank you!!

Honestly it is rather unlikely with those grades. Cut down on ECs a bit so that you can focus on your GPA and start finding some schools that you like that are a bit less selective.

NYU, UCB, UCLA, USC are all still within reach with great test scores and a fantastic junior year. Maybe even Georgetown and Cornell to an extent.

You never really had a chance at Columbia, Stanford, or UChicago in the first place. It’s not because of you, but because of how selective those schools are.
