Okay, so I am a soph in high school now, freshman year was all good all honors and I got all A's. The only thing that sucked was that I got a 156 on the PSAT! (72M, 44W!, 40CR!) I aced math easy, but I wasn't used to time limit and didnt really prepare. Now its sophomore year in highschool and I got a 202 on the PSAT (64M, 70W, 68CR). This is more acceptable and my super score is like 210, because I totally screwed up on math. The only thing that really that sucks was that I got THREE SEMESTER B's (3.5 GPA!! and I'm indian too!) This is because I started slacking and was really involved with community service
(got about 200hrs in 6 months) and clubs. Now im feeling so bad inside because I really want to go to Cornell for AEM, and I cant afford any more B's! I am willing to do anything to get into Cornell, I have started studying 5 hours a day for the SAT and I have been getting around 2150 - 2200 on the practice tests minus essay. I really want to know how I can make up for those B's and I cant get another B so im really trying hard in school. Is a 3.92 GPA acceptable, or a 3.86, because I fear next year's tough courseload will bring me down more! Someone help! Any adive that will help me make my resume more appealing? :( I feel like crying.

Don’t sweat it. Sure grades are important, but Cornell is more about the “fit.” Admissions counselors want to see that you’ll fit in with the Cornell community. You really have to show them that AEM is what you want your major to be and volunteering is a good way to go. If you can keep a decent GPA AND volunteer 200+ hours in six months, they’ll enjoy you more than somebody who has a 4.0 GPA and no volunteering. Just be sure to use every opportunity (i.e. don’t take slacker courses for easy A’s) available to you and you should be fine. Good luck! :)

Relax lol Just enjoy your high school life and do some EC’s (not because you want to get into Cornell, but because you like doing them lol)

I have 3 B’s (Canadian B’s… which means 70’s) on my transcript, I haven’t even heard of SAT’s until half-way through Gr. 10, and I still got in lol

Depends on many other factors. GPA isnt everything, don’t sweat a few Bs.

Honestly if your gonna be stressing this much and its only ur sophomore year, your gonna have a rough time finishing high school. Don’t worry about these things too much, everything will turn out ok. Besides, is Cornell really worth it if it means being so stressed out in high school that you wanna pull your hair out. Take a chill pill, itl all be fine.

I’m pretty sure that PSAT’s don’t matter at all. You’re worrying way too much.

I have a friend that spent 6 hours a night on homework/studying every night when she was in Gr. 9 and she wants to be a doctor. And she’s not doing that great now in Gr. 12… since she had to spend so much time in Gr. 9’s to get A’s, it’s not like she can spend 20 hours doing homework/studying in Gr. 12 to get those A’s.

I highly doubt that anyone who spends so much time directly on homework/studying can survive in Cornell.

I’m not saying that it’s the OP (after all, the OP didn’t mention anything about homework), but I just thought that it’d be a good idea to bring this up here.

My other main point is that if the OP is already so stressed in sophomore, how is the OP going to survive 6 more years in a tough environment (seeing that it gets tougher exponentially every year)?

a 3.92 is awful- go to community college- you fail. No seriously chill out., you will be fine.

I thought I wanted to go to cornell too, and this year I’m not applying there. Just do your best and things will work out.

Wow, like everyone else said, chill. It’s only sophomore year, and colleges don’t even see PSATs, what the heck are you worried about? LOL I didn’t even take PSATs until my junior year, and you’ve already taken them twice! And it’s a bit early in your high school career to decide that cornell is THE school for you. Things change in two or so years. for now, just keep doing what you’ve been doing, try your best and keep an open mind. Everything will work out, I promise.

I’ve never taken PSAT lol

Didn’t know what it was until Gr. 11, and by then, might as well head straight for the SAT’s lol

I laughed when I read this post.

You are MORE than fine, rofl.
