Messed up. What are my chances

I have a solid GPA and solid MCAT (3.7 36 MCAT), or so I thought. Took an EMT course at a community college last summer, didn't really do well because I had too much other stuff going on outside of school, so I didn't pay much attention to it. Didn't realize I'd have to report my community college grades to AAMCA as well. Ended up getting a D, and it was a 6 credit course. That single class alone pulls me down to a 3.5 GPA. Not to mention a glaring D grade. Had I known that it would show up on my GPA, I would have withdrew from the class half way thru the summer. Just needed a 65 for certification, so was trying to aim for that. Now I am totally screwed, and feel so helpless. One stupid mistake feels like it's totally threatening my chances at getting into the schools I was aiming for. I don't know what to do. Looked into the community college and my home school's policy on grade changing, retaking, etc. Regardless of what I do, it'll stay on my transcript based on the policies. If this grade was not on my transcript, I'd be right where I wanna be. A solid GPA, a solid MCAT score, good extracurriculars, and basically everything I have been working so hard for for three years (I'm a junior now). I was planning on graudating next year and applying this cycle, but now it seems like I'd either have to apply next cycle and maybe stay an extra semester or more in school to raise my GPA. But if I don't do that, with a 3.5 GPA, 36 MCAT, that 1 D, and say I have average ECs, what are my chances at an MD school?

What is your Science GPA? That class isn’t a science class, I’m guessing. Right?

This shouldn’t destroy all chances. You might want to address it in some way in your app. They’re going to wonder why you did so poorly. You have to be careful how you address this. SOMs may not like hearing that you didn’t care much about the class and were just working towards the minimum score.

MD SOMs do not allow for “grade changing” from retakes. If you retake, the old grade stays, and the new grade also shows.

You’re going to have to apply to a well-thought out list. Don’t know if this would take you out of the running for the higher ranked schools. Others here will know more about that.

What state are you in?

Illinois. Science GPA 3.65. EMT class is not a science class, no. Not sure how I would address this. The honest to goodness truth is I just didn’t make time for it, and thought it wouldn’t matter anyways, so it was ok for me to neglect the class as long as I just made the bare minimum. Just had too much stuff going on in my life outside of academics during that summer. As I said, had I known, I would have immediately withdrew and took the course some other time.

Considering the acceptance rate for applicants with your GPA and MCAT is 76.1% I would say your odds are pretty good. ;)

Turn this into a life lesson! You might find some way to add a few sentences about it within the context of your PS so that its acknowledged without making a big deal about it.
