I'm a sophmore with a management major and a Management Information Systems minor. I plan on taking 5 years to graduate because of my course load and my desire to study abroad.

My cumlative GPA right now is 3.3, mostly because of my science courses which are dragging me down (science gpa is like a 2.7-2.9, not sure. Probably higher but I'm trying to show the worst case). Basically I took all of my premed courses except the current orgo class I'm taking (I will for sure get a B, maybe an A (a stretch) - my school does not use the plus or minus system) and the second semester of organic chemistry left. I plan on taking one extra year of a biology and one year of biochemistry before I graduate to raise my science GPA. I am very confident of getting an A in the biology course. I also took a practice mcat and I got a 35. I will also be an EMT in April.

So, given that my cumlative GPA will be a 3.5 by the time I apply and my science GPA somewhere around a 3.1-3.3 with a MCAT score of a 35:

Would you recommend that I rethink about my career choice as a medical doctor?
If not, which medical schools would be appropriate for my grades?

I would very much like to attend an M.D. school but I would be fine with D.O. schools too, probably would be a better fit for me. I did some research and I think I'm out of the range for most M.D. schools. Also does working as an EMT count towards clinical experience?

Thanks for reading and thanks in advanced for your advice.

EMT does count for clinical experience.

If you really want to be a doctor, don't give up. The fact that you can rationally assess your own situation is a good sign, I think.

I agree with you that you're probably too low for MD schools. You could try applying to your state school, but I think you're wise to look at DO schools. I believe you need a recc from a DO doctor to even apply to DO schools, so I would strongly consider cultivating relationships with DOs so you can be sure that you can tell DO medical school that you have some idea of what a DO really is.

leth
EMT is a great back ground and it will count alot. I would assume that you are older than most of your others? That may help you too.
DO school is getting as hard as MD school and Vet may be harder. But, get good grades in your field of interest to counter your "premed" grades. That will also help.

Not everyone has to be a science major and we enjoy those who are not. Be able to explain your science grades and you MUST do better in your management grades.

Go for it

What do you mean by "I would assume that you are older than most of your others?" If you are asking if I am older than my classmates, I am not but I do plan on staying an extra year like how I explained before so I will be older.

My cumlative GPA should go up because I haven't taken much management classes yet, mostly all science (premed) and couple of gen ed classes. Without my science classes, my gpa is a 3.84.
I think my LOR from my professor, who used to be the head admissions officer for Columbia's medical school, should help me some what and my volunteer medical trip to Kenya for a month or two will help too.

Thanks for the advice, I will work harder to get my grades up. And princessdad, if I may ask, what school do you work for?
