Does anyone have any info on what Metcalf Hall is like?
Metcalf was converted from singles into doubles for freshmen housing a few years ago. As an alum (who lived in Metcalf a long long time ago), I haven’t been in the building since the renovation. It’s on Pembroke campus, which means you’ll be eating in the V-W cafeteria. Because the renovation is recent, only current students can really give more specific details.
I believe the renovation made it pretty nice - I stayed in Andrews right by Metcalf (they’re connected) during reunion this year. Pretty standard dorm - bathroom down the hall, etc. There are some nice lounges on the first floor, and you’re connected directly to Andrews dining hall (open for lunch through late-night).
thanks, i am asking for one of my son’s friends who is a first generation college student (with no support at home) and I am trying to get her situated. Was looking for info on what she needs… floor lamps, storage systems etc. I am not too familiar with Brown and am trying to get the lay of the land so to speak! Seems like a pretty nice dorm from what I can tell sleuthing around the internet, but not finding the little details. Thanks for the help!
Brown provides a bed, a desk, a dresser (stand-alone or built in, depending on the dorm), and a bookshelf. She’s responsible for anything else. I’d really suggest that she reach out to the First-Gen center at Brown (https://www.brown.edu/campus-life/support/first-generation-students/) and ask them for help moving in! They have a mentoring program that could be a great way for her to get to know people early on.
Thank you!!! I will be sure to pass along the info
Metcalf (as well as it’s twin, Miller) is pretty much the nicest dorm on campus. We’re talking huge glass-walled lounges, updated stainless-steel kitchens, basement room with a huge TV, marble counters in the bathrooms, all the bells and whistles. The rooms have nice cork flooring, and there are very cold water dispensers in the hallways (rarely seen in other dorms!). Be aware that some previous doubles have been converted to triples and are now kind of tight, although I guess you would know if that affected you. Your daughter will enjoy Metcalf very much!
