Meteorology?

@AroundHere Really I didn’t know that. Do you have a link to that?

@Tenjin99 what are your ACT and SAT scores? That would be helpful to know so that we can make appropriate recommendations of programs based on your GPA and test scores.

@carolinamom2boys I can already tell you that I’m going to have to take it again in February, I got 14 Composite Score, 18 in English, 15 in math, a 12 in both Reading and Science.

You may need to revise your school list to find schools where your stats are in the 50th percentile for acceptance. Your current list has many schools that aren’t a match for your stats.

@Tenjin99 what math and science classes have you taken so far? You’re a junior right? What do you plan to take next year?

@3scoutsmom OP is a senior

@AroundHere I applied there as that major.

What happened with your test scores?

@AroundHere Test scores appear consistent with GPA of 2.7

@carolinamom2boys it’s only my second time taking it. I can take it again in February.

What classes have you taken? Have you taken Calculus AB? What about sciences? I’m a prospective Meteorology student, I’m applying to Penn State. What you need is a good standing in Calculus and Physics. It seems after looking your ACT, I think a community college will be better for you. That way you can take the prerequires such as one Chemistry course (General Chemistry) two calculus-based Physics (Physics 1 and 2). I’m in a community college it was the best decision, saved tons of money. I visited Penn State and they gave me a Meteorology checklist and I’m close to done. Although, I failed Calculus 1 (D) but I won’t give up. I see my friends passing calculus 1 on their first try because they took it in high school ( which I didn’t, the highest math level I took was Algebra).

@NASA2014 I’ve taken 2 biology classes and a physical science and this year I’m taking chemistry and I have a B average in there. I’ve also taken 3 algebras and geometry class. Just so you guys know I’m taking the ACT again in February and the SAT also in February.

A 14 ACT on a second try is not consistent with being college-ready for a math/science heavy major.

What math and science classes have you taken? Are you getting A’s in them? Do your teachers and counselors support going straight to a four year school? If you are not ready to start in calculus at a four-year school, it may make sense to go to a community college first.

@AroundHere ok in that case my school district has done me a worse disservice than I thought they did. I’m getting As and Bs in Chemistry and Algebra III. But I’ve taken a physical science and 2 biologys and a Chemistry. I’ve taken 3 Algebra and a Geometry class.

GOING to a community college isn’t bad. Your status seemed similar to mind. I got a 950 on the SAT ( I know). But hey, going into my last semester makes me sad. The professors are my friends, added them on facebook and they usually answer my questions!

Unfortunately Biology doesn’t do much for meteorology. Can you elaborate on 3 algebras? Our high school only offers 2, Algebra I and Algebra II. I’m not familiar with Algebra 3. If you haven’t had calculus or physics yet I’d agree with @NASA2014 's suggestion of community college to get your basic math and science courses out of the way.

@3scoutsmom and my struggle through life continues but my school offers a third algebra.

You should consider going to community college for a year.

You should take precalculus and do algebra-based physics, also some challenging reading/writing heavy classes like History or Literature so your reading and English ACT scores improve. That way, when you get to your four-year school, you will be ready for calculus and calculus-based physics.

When my art major child was in community college, she took a meteorology-for-non-science-majors class she had a blast in. Though it won’t get into all the hard details, you would learn the concept behind the math, and you’d probably have a lot of fun in it.

Do you have a good community college system near home?

Yes, Biology doesn’t do much! If you’re like me I’m thinking of double majoring in chemistry and meteorology. The reason why is because I fell in love with my first course of chemistry (never took it, got stuck trying to pass a State test ) My dream is to take 2 semesters of Biochemistry and they said I need some good knowledge of Organic Chemistry. Sadly, I did pass but I got a D. So it won’t transfer. So if you really like biology, maybe do a double major in biology and meteorology.
