Meteorology?

@NASA2014 I work myself so hard man to be successful but this news right here just let’s me know that I’ll be better off without those guys at my high school after I graduate. I guess the guys at my high school underestimate me because I’m mildly autistic but whatever if I have to stay for a little while longer that’s ok because I’m just tying up loose ends. But man when those rejection letters start coming in it’s going to hurt.

If you are getting As and Bs in all of the classes , how is your GPA a 2.7?

@AroundHere I wanted Pre Calculus but they put me Algebra III instead. And I can’t think of any.

Rule number one: DON"T compare yourself with other people.
I’m going on my third year at my college. Do you think I care what my friends do? Yes, but I’m happy for them because for them it’s easier to get what they want. IT doesn’t matter how long it takes you. I had a friend who finally finished his PhD in meteorology at 36 years old!

@carolinamom2boys I had some anxiety last year that gave me a hard time and brought my grades down.

@NASA2014 I was talking about my guidance Counselor man

@Tenjin99 Did you not have a graduation plan developed with your GC to guide you through to ensure that you had the appropriate classes to apply to college? The state of SC requires it.

@carolinamom2boys she said I was on track.

@Tenjin99 Do you have an IEP or 504 plan because of your autism ? I suggest that you and your parents set up a time to meet with the GC to see the best way to proceed. I agree that a CC may be the best starting place for you given your anxiety and mild autism.

@carolinamom2boys the anxiety is gone now and I’m on an IEP plan

Did you receive accommodations when you took your ACT? You may be eligible to have increased time or other accommodations because of your IEP. You need to check with your GC .

Sorry @Tenjin99 but I’m starting to agree with your mom that it might best for you to stay in state and ease your way into college via CC. You say you are mildly autistic, suffer from anxiety, have not completed the suggested/required high school courses for math and foreign language and don’t have the grades and test score to assure acceptance to the schools you have applied to. If you were my child I’d want you to have plan that would assure your academic success and not set you up for potential academic and costly failure. You really need to listen to what @Nasa2014 has to say, he is speaking from experience.

@carolinamom2boys they didn’t give it to me the first time and I was the only one that didn’t get that so that made me angry because they denied me getting that and I went on a wild goose chase trying to figure out where I’m testing at. This time the same thing happened and I didn’t get it but it was on a Saturday.

@3scoutsmom I’m listening but with the stuff both of y’all are telling me makes me look forward to graduating even more now.

@Tenjin99 I understand that this is frustrating and hard to hear. We are trying to help you figure out how to get the accommodations you need for the ACT in Feb so that you can improve your test scores .What reason did they give for not giving you accommodations? You need to get your GC to make sure that you have the documentation to get the accommodations you need.

@carolinamom2boys IDK what the reason was but I’m talking about the April 19 test when I had to deal with all that crap.

@carolinamom2boys Getting accommodations is rarely straightforward. The ACT and College Board tend to deny requests rather randomly and it takes persistence to overcome that. Then, once you’re approved for the accommodations, you have to find a test site that will take you. Many test sites do not offer special tests, just the standard procedure ones. And after all that, sometimes the test still isn’t proctored correctly!

@AroundHere that’s what pissed me off I got told that the day before and I was the only kid that got denied.

IDK if I should feel insulted, mad, or embarrassed because I know I’m very smart and that’s one of the pros of having a high functioning autism and I don’t want to feel like I’m being screwed over because of my scores.

Honestly, getting accommodations will probably be a hassle from here on out.

In college, the department in charge of providing accommodations (usually a place called “Academic Support” or “Disability Services” or somesuch) will tell professors the names of the students in each class who have accommodations, but it will be up to each student to meet with each professor in each class to discuss their needs and how the support will be implemented in each course. You will need to advocate for yourself each step of the way.

So, calling the ACT and asking why you were denied, or talking to the guidance counselor about this, or talking to your parents about updating your evaluations and IEP to what the ACT wants to see… All of this is great practice for your future. You need to be the squeaky wheel with everybody and anybody until you get the accommodations you need so that your test scores (and later your college course grades) reflect your actual abilities.
