MFA in Illustration/Graphic Design

I am currently looking for an MFA program... my problem is figuring out which MFA program! What I'm really looking to do is a hybrid of illustration and design, including patterning, surface design, and licensed imagery.

I'm looking to possibly pursue an MFA because I think it will hone my art skills, build my portfoliom and I want to build my network and connections. I also like that it opens up the internship route again (since most major companies want you to be a student), and I like having the option to teach.

The only school I've really found that I like is MCAD, with it's mentor based program, as well as being in a good art hub that houses some good companies that hire. I'm looking for second choices, but any that might seem promising are in NYC or in/near LA, where I don't think I could live.

Most programs either swing far into editorial illustration, which I found out the hard way is not my cup of tea, or are rooted firmly in the far wing of graphic design- I see myself doing a hybrid of the two, Hallmark or American Greetings-esque, or doing design for retail like Target etc.

My D is at MCAD now as an undergrad. Most of her first year friends were grad students, a few in illustration and some in animation. I know the animation guy has some west coast deals going on now, but not sure about the others. I can speak to the school facilities, location, etc, if you want to know about those things.
