Hey guys! I have just been admitted to both MHC and Drexel University. I love Drexel’s location and Co-op program, but MHC also has the five college system and gives me a tad more financial aid than Drexel, though (around $5000).
If my major is Communications/Media, what school should I choose?
MHC has more resources, from a better endowment to membership in the Five College Consortium, AND you’re getting more FA. However, it is also much smaller (2,200 undergrads to Drexel’s 22,000), and it’s a women’s only college. If you are OK with these, I think that MHC is the better choice.
Mount Holyoke is an excellent college, but it does not offer a Communications/Media major. Check out what they offer at the following link.

Yeah actually I applied for Journalism, Media and Public Discourse
Did you apply ED to MHC? I’m curious how you know already. I thought MHC releases all decisions in March, with the exception of a few early writes in February.
@rosemaryandthyme No, I applied ED2 to MHC. I have had my results since Jan 23. Do you apply for MHC, too?
If you applied ED, you have made a binding commitment to MHC. You are required to withdraw all other applications. https://www.mtholyoke.edu/admission/firstyear/early_decision
Well, you already made the decision when you applied ED. But it’s a really good decision! Well done and congrats.
@kbm770 - The OP is not obligated to attend MHC. If she believes that the aid package is not affordable, she can turn down the offer. Yes, she reports that the aid package is a bit better then Drexel’s, but she may have still other potential offers on the table that are better yet, and/or there may be other factors that make Drexel more affordable.
@AmeliaT0508 - There was a reason why you chose to apply to MHC in ED status. What was it that made MHC your absolute first choice at that time? Re-visit those thoughts. And do sit down with your parents or whoever it is who is helping you pay for your education and run all of the numbers. Is MHC affordable with this package? Are any loans included? Must you maintain a certain GPA in order to have similar funding in future years? I am a huge fan of MHC, but if the numbers don’t work, find a less expensive option for yourself.
Mount Holyoke has not agreed to compete with other institutions on financial terms, however. MHC’s acceptance at this stage has been offered to the OP on binding terms, provided that the cost of attendance would be affordable and in accordance with reasonable expectations.
