Miami University Class of 2023 - Admissions decisions

@rph16 I’ll message you.

Daughter got her merit letter yesterday. $17000/yr.

WGPA: 4.1
GPA: 3.8
ACT: 31
Major: Engineering and Social Impact and Justice Scholar
Residence state: GA

When will honors decisions come out?

I saw your earlier post @rph16. We received the same amount of merit for OOS. I’m wondering if the bigger merit awards are going to STEM majors; they’re typically more coveted than Arts & Science types.

Does anyone know what students need to do to maintain their scholarship awards after Freshman year? In other words what gpa must be maintained? Other requirements?

@buckeyeinbama I was accepted to the College of Engineering and Computing so I’m not sure if certain majors have precedence.

Hmmm… well, that just debunked my theory @rph16 . (lol)

D19 received her merit letter - $10,000

WGPA: 3.7
GPA: 3.4
SAT: 1290
Major: Education
Residence state: MD

@Kstamp For most renewable scholarships, students need to maintain a 3.0 cumulative gpa. Academic records are reviewed at the end of each spring semester, although incoming freshman generally have until the end of their sophomore year before they would lose a scholarship. The scholarship requirements will be listed in your student’s finalized financial aid package.

Thanks for the helpful information!

@lexluthor5 The Make It Miami program was terrific and was our first visit to campus. My son loved it so much, he was ready to pay the deposit after about 2 hours! I would definitely recommend attending and this forum has lots of posts from people who went last year, if you are interested. Hats off to Miami for hosting so many open dates for Make It Miami - several other schools on my son’s list have only one or two to choose from, which makes scheduling hard!

Same here…different major but in Maryland!

@dcnatfan previous post was for you. new here just getting used to the site!

Just returned home and received the merit letter for our daughter with a $20K/year offer. She has about a 3.7 weighted GPA/33 ACT (superscore). I’d have been a little surprised if she didn’t get the low end of the merit tier that she qualified for. This puts Miami at about $7-$8K/year less than what UMass/UConn/Delaware/Vermont/JMU are/will most like wind up being, plus the Miami price stays the same for 4 years. In the end, I think she may not feel that Miami is as good of a personality fit as the others, but she’ll get a good chance to figure that out by attending both the local red brick road show and the make it miami day on campus. From what we’ve heard, I think she’ll be impressed with the campus and town and all of the other measureables (except for distance from home) match up well with what she wants.

My D got her merit award in the mail on 12/22. She got 10K a year including the UASP.

Son admitted into the honors program, computer science major.
3.9 unweighted 4.3 weighted
23rd in his class out of 390, top 10%
32 ACT 1430 SAT
$12,000 merit

Hi all - question - does anyone know if there are often additional scholarships distributed after the initial merit? We really like Miami and got a generous award - but it is still out of the budget set without an extra 5-6k/year. I know some of the other schools have sent additional awards for housing, major specific, etc.

Just came home from Christmas vacation in New York and the merit award was in the mail. We are Ohio residents and DD will be a psychology major, has a 3.85 gpa and a 28 ACT, so we weren’t expecting much. She was awarded $32,000 total (8,000 annually), so it was a pleasant surprise.

@HHSMomx2 Your student will receive a finalized financial aid package end of February/beginning of March. It’s possible the finalized package could include additional scholarships. One of my Ds received an Arts and Sciences Dean’s Scholarship in her final package that was not mentioned in her original letter. I have no idea how frequently that happens, but it was a nice surprise.

State Residency: Ohio
