correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't from September 3 to June 24 an abnormally long school year? I mean it starts when semester based colleges usually start(early), then ends later than most quarter based colleges(which end much later than semester based ones anyway)

Ummm.... On there, it says classes started September 7th and that the spring exams were April 21st - 22nd and April 26th - 28th for normal students.

the trimester system is somewhat misleading-the main academic year is from sept-december and january-end of april. Some people stay to take spring classes, but usually you would only take 1 or 2 classes during the spring term.

April...isn't that considered early? Sounds good to me.

it is early and its freakin GOOD, sept - april r u kiddin me? 4 months vacation for the next 4 yrs, WOOHOO lol

Eh it's ok...at first you think woohoo but in the beginning none of your friends will be home for at least another week so you will be bored, and by the beginning of june you will want to go back to Ann Arbor. Next summer, however, I will be doing an internship in germanym and I think the summer after that I am going to stay in Ann Arbor for the summer (which a lot of people do)

Yeah, Michigan's <8 month academic year is probably shorter than everyone else's, but the annoying parts are the short breaks (because Ann Arbor is over 500 miles from home, I only went home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and "spring break" during those eight months). Also, when you get back, your friends will be at the beginning of studying for finals so you do get bored rather quickly if you don't have anything to do.

ah i c...i guess I have the advantage of only living 30 miles from Ann Arbor and with my driving it takes like a 1/2 hr to get home lol. I have premed stuff to do over the summers like research, work with patients in my dads office, internships, loads of junk to show im into medicine. So my summers should be pretty well covered

Does anyone stick around for Thansgiving? We only have two days off so I was thinking that it wouldn't be worth flying home.

Few people do, as for many out-of-staters like myself it's the first time to be home in three months. You get two school days off, but using the weekend its four days. Not a long time, but for many people the only time they can visit home in the first semester (there's also fall break, which is a four-day weekend in October, but not near as many people leave for this).
