rjk, I think Alexandre’s point in post #18 was that one would expect a university with a high population to produce a higher number of grad student admits at top 10 programs simply by virtue of having a higher population of top performers and a larger pool from which to cull same.

And to be fair, if one were to calculate the placement odds by program this would ultimately have to be represented as a percentage of the population (eg. x% of michigan’s ugs are placed in program…) for all things to be truly equal. That’s where the Ivies would be tough to beat – because they would represent a larger proportion of the student body as successful admits to top 10 programs…

kmcmom, if you adjust for major and student quality, there is no significant difference in graduate admissions between Michigan and most Ivies, save HYP. In other words, identical students from Michigan and say Cornell or Penn stand virtually identical chances of admission into top graduate programs.

Michigan has many students enrolled in programs that are not normally feeder disciplines into business, engineering, law, and medical graduate schools.

How do all of these threads get turned into UMich v. Duke? How did Duke make it into this conversation about UMich law school placement?

Do you really not know the answer?

That “blue devils” fellow.

Another thread ruined by LDB.

We get it LDB, some smart people go to Duke. No one here is arguing that. You should be very very proud of yourself. Now how about staying off the UMich board?

I’m willing to bet the house LDB doesn’t actually have that great of a job lined up, and he doesn’t come from that wealthy of a family.

He certainly doesn’t seem like he took full advantage of a lucky upbringing.

Know how I know he’s BSing?

“Most premed students I know would go to…” - tell-tale sign of a person with nothing real to say.

Act like you’ve been successful before, LDB. You’re trying way too hard.

I’ve rarely seen a squabble any more childish. Why does it matter?

Thanks for the insight. Truly some food for thought. Now that you frame it that way, I really think you’re quite the good Samaritan. Now take your insights to another board.

I think another post by LDB was removed.
