Michigan Math and Science Scholars

I just got accepted into this program at university of Michigan for the summer and I was just wondering if there is anyone who has been there before and could answer some of my questions. Do a lot of people go on the cedar point and baseball trips? And are they worth it? Is there any items I should bring that aren’t necessarily on the packing list or are there any things I should be sure to bring? We’re the classes hard? I’m in one about statistics and how they are used in stuff. Sounds interesting, but I’m concerned that it won’t be very interactive. Are the classes, even the math classes, engaging? Are the counseled lenient and chill or super uptight? Lastly, was it fun? If anyone could answer these I would greatly appreciate it!

Hey i also applied for this program but i havent heard back yet, when did you send in your application?

All of my stuff was submitted by February 24th and I just got my acceptance Monday

Okay thanks! and did you get an email?

As a former attendee of MMSS I can tell you that is an amazing experience IF YOU HAVE A GOOD CLASS. Anatomy, for example was incredible. The professor was engaging and the activities were extremely interesting. And yes, most (but not all) students do the Cedar Point trip and baseball game. And regardless of your class topic, the time spent with new friends exploring Ann Arbor is transformative. It’s a huge part of why I chose to go to UMich for college next year

Yes it was an email

Do you think it’s too late to apply? Also am I okay with a 3.8 to 3.9 GPA (not sure what the acceptance rate is… or required grades)?

not sure if this thread is still active but I’m gonna comment anyways
I just got accepted to the Hormones and Behavior: The Secret Life of Chemical Messengers. I’m super excited for it! As for the baseball game/ cedar point, I’m probably not going to go to either, because sitting in the stands of a baseball field on a hot afternoon isn’t my cup of tea and roller coasters aren’t my thing either–the website says there will be other things that we can do if we don’t go on the trip, so it’ll probably be exploring Ann Arbor or something else equally fun, so I’m not too worried about it

@Qalinq-- the admissions is rolling basis, which means its first come first serve. You could probably still apply (or hopefully already have) and you might get in, but you may not get your first choice class. I got in with a 3.9 weighted GPA, with 3 Honors and 2 AP classes on my transcript, and my AP psych teacher wrote my recommendation. If you did/do end up applying, I hope you get in!

about admission, so if my email is blocked at the moment and can’t check, I can still find out if I got in by logging into MMSS and looking at the WebApply section? It has been a month since the application went under review and I was wondering if I only know if I got in through email.

@LifeisLuck when you get accepted, they will send you an email notifying you and telling you to log into your Web Account to accept or deny your acceptance. Im going to assume you should be able to login and see whether or not you were accepted without recieving the email. on the right hand side where all your checklisted items are, it should say something like, “acceptance email sent” or something similar.

ahh cool I guess I just have to keep on waiting

I just submitted my application. How many classes can we get put into?

i think one

Got my acceptance letter a few days ago! I’m in the Graph Theory class for Session II. Who else has been accepted?

I got accepted in to Session II Catalysis and Solar Energy!

I was accepted into Session 1 – Making it in the “Real World” - Understanding the Physiology Behind Organism Behavior!! Anyone else going to be there in Session 1??

I was accepted into Session 1 Catalysis, Solar Energy and Green Chemical Synthesis!

Is UM MMSS a competitive/selective program? What age are the majority of the students?

I think it is a relatively selective program, but I encourage anyone to apply. I don’t think there is really a majority age. There is about an equal amount of people from each grade from 10-12. I went this summer and it was awesome do I would apply if I were you!!
