Michigan Ross for Internationals

In general how much of a disadvantage is an international student from Canada at when applying to the Ross School of Business. How difficult is it overall as a school to get into?

I think that it is very difficult to know without applying and seeing whether you get in. Generally it is significantly more difficult for international students to get into universities in the US (and probably anywhere else).

However, many universities in the US care a lot about “diversity”, and one form of diversity is geographic diversity. The HUGE difference in price between Canadian and US schools, plus the great difficulty of Canadians graduating from US schools to get a job in Canada, plus the inability for international students to stay and work in the US after graduation, might reduce the number of Canadian students who apply to US universities.

As such, it is possible that you might have a “geographic diversity” advantage at US schools. However, I don’t think that there is any way to know to what extent that will or will not offset the disadvantage of being an international applicant.

Thanks for the in-depth explanation and I’m feeling more confident in my application. Overall I hear Ross is a really good business school and I was wondering how competitive it is in general. Would it be harder than most schools but not as hard as a school like Wharton for example?

Thanks so much

Canada99, I would say that getting into Ross is about as selective as getting into Wharton…or perhaps just a little easier. We are talking sub 20% acceptance rate with similar high school GPAs and SAT/ACT ranges as Wharton. Ross is considered one of the top 5 undergraduate business school in the nation, on par with Haas and Sloan, so getting in will be very selective.

This is dated mind, you. For the Freshman class of 2018, I would anticipate 4,000 applications and roughly 800 admits, of which 400 or so will enroll.
