Michigan State and Princeton Review Best 381 Colleges

Did anyone notice that the 2017 Princeton Review did not list MSU as one of the best 381 schools in the nation? I live in
NJ and some of the schools on the list are really mediocre and am concerned that I am overrating MSU.

Yes I noticed and also SUNY Buffalo is not on the list. I recall that I saw both of these schools and several others are mentioned in the back of the Princeton Review book as deserving of honorable mention. But IMO these two schools as well as several others are in fact better than several of the 381 schools listed in Princeton review. We need to take this list with a grain of salt because it is biased, just as the Fiske guide to Colleges is biased in their star rating of certain colleges. Makes one wonder if the editors of these books give an edge to their alma maters in their ranking or whether they get money from colleges give out on the list. I’m thinking of making a separate thread to discuss this pet peeve.

Even though it is the oldest and is often criticized, US News still looks reasonable to me for the most part. It does have some interesting picks in certain areas, e.g. High Point U for best regional southern college, though. I was a bit concerned about MSU because my son is very interested in it and seems like a good choice for the B-B+ student with solid test scores.

USNews’ is the best undergraduate ranking, IMO. Aside from mine, of course.
