Michigan State vs Central Michigan

I have been accepted to both colleges can I pay the reservation fee for both, pick an orientation date, and fill out housing information for both; until I find out what college gives me the most in financial aid and then cancel my admission at one.

Is there a question here?

Why not wait for the financial aid packages?

I was just wonder can I apply for housing and orientation at two colleges and then cancel on one of the colleges, to find out what college gives me the most money.

Consider the fact that MSU has higher graduation rates, higher average salaries, and a national reputation.

I think the tuition difference is about $2k per year. From my perspective, that is a bargain.

+1 for MSU.

I know MSU is a better school I just want to know if I can sign up for housing and orientation at two colleges and then cancel on one college when I see what college gives me the most money? I don’t want to get stuck having to pay two colleges.

You still haven’t explained why you are even considering this option as opposed to waiting for the packages. I don’t see any benefit to it. Be patient.

Signing up for housing to get in line to reserve a spot is NOT the same thing as paying a tuition deposit and saying you will attend. Yes, you can register for housing (a $25 fee and $200 deposit at my daughter’s university – not sure what it is at yours), and then cancel later. What you don’t want to do is put down a tuition deposit at both universities, and you don’t have to at this time since that is not due for a while. Housing has more urgency because it is often first come first served, so feel free to sign up for housing. Just read any fine print about when and how to cancel to make sure you are not tying yourself into any contracts where you could lose more than a couple hundred dollars.

As for orientation, that could be different – it seems like that might be connected with saying you are going to attend. Usually only confirmed and registered students attend an actual orientation, and those typically happen over the summer. However, universities may have other recruiting events in the spring for students they have offered admission to who have not yet confirmed they are attending, to try to convince them to go there. Read the description of what you are interested in attending to figure out which of these types of programs it is before deciding whether to sign up or not.
