michigan STEM academy

I just received a letter of UofM about this. Should i join , they say if you complete the summer training they give you 3k ? Anyone tried this before give me more info on this plz?

bump. someone plz give some info on this plz

yes i had the same question. Im wondering how much of a commitment it is. Seems like it would only be two summers, but then again, they probably require work during school.

bump. someone plz can me some informatino on it plz. couldnt find anything on it on michigna website

I'm waiting for them to email me.

I'm currently working on the essay portion. 3 essays just for us. Yippie.

I'm doing it for the money, I wonder how selective it is?

I noticed that this was under Multicultural Engineering on Umich's website. Is this program only for URM's?

yeah i got one too and i applied before the april 1st deadline… but now they send me another app cuz they changed the info session to april 17th? does anyone know anything about it? i couldn’t find anything either. and am i supposed to resend my app? cuz the letter they just sent me is dated april 2nd

wait you mean they extended the deadline?

I attended Campus Day today and they briefly talked about it. It is a program that helps students that maxed out their resources at their high school and that high school is known not to prepare their students for the rigor of the engineering course load. To fix this trend, they allow students to get catch up with their peers by teaching them science and math during the summer. Another thing is that they mandate you to follow their class plan for the first two years, so you have to follow the academic advisors plan of action for you. I do not know about the money aspect, but the role of STEM Academy is to get you prepared for UMich Engineering.

That sounds awful! It sounds like H/EOP in New York Schools.

I don’t like “they mandate you to follow their class plan for the first two years, so you have to follow the academic advisors plan of action for you.”

I was hoping to look into Ross as well. So if I go to M-STEM, I can’t do that? I need the $3000, its more than most summer jobs give anyway.

Yes, but remember that the Academy just gives you 1,500 after the summer, then 750 fall 2009 and 750 winter 2010! :)

and to top that off, they give you guaranteed paid reserach($3500) or a corporate internship in summer 2010.

Can it be both? lol… i mean, i’m really not sure what i want. I REALLY want to do research but it would be great to do research while at a corporate internship… is that possible? I"m not sure how these things work.
