Is M-Sci worth it?

I got invited to apply to M-Sci (well the M-STEM Academies but im not going into engineering), and I was wondering if it’s worth doing it? It sounds great because I’d get nine credits, money, a taste of what Michigan classes will be like, and the opportunity to meet future classmates. However, I’d have to live in North Campus as a freshman and I’m applying to the Honors College meaning the biggest perk is gone (living on South). From what I read, it seems that students are heavily limited in terms of leaving campus and staying up late. Also, it is incredibly fast-paced and I’m not sure if I’d be able to handle studying so much in only 6 weeks. I’m also unsure if I’d want to cut my summer short when I might not see a lot of my friends anymore. I know it sounds like the cons outweigh the pros, but I am a serious student who likes to take advantage of every learning opportunity I can.

Do you have to stay in the same dorm you are in during the summer program?

@yikesyikesyikes Yes.

@yikesyikesyikes To my understanding, at least, though I could be wrong.

If so, that might be a tough choice- have you looked at any of the living-learning communities?

Yeah, I was thinking about the research community since it sounds cool. I guess I’ll see if the honors college accepts me first and then from there I’ll decide what to do.

Awesome- keep in mind that you can do honors AND the research community, if I am not mistaken.

Has anyone been accepted to M-Sci academy yet. I am really freaking out right now. PLZ HELP LOL

woah16@ You do realize that the M-Sci part costs about 7k and the credits are basically gen-ed right? It is to get you ready for college level work and they house you in North Campus for 2 years.

@Skigropple All of what you said is true, but they only house you in North Campus for 1 year. After that you can choose where to live.
